Most Amish buy standardbred race horsed that have either retired from the track or that weren't good enough for the track. When I was in college they would come to the auction on the second day and buy a bunch of horses. Not all, but most are VERY hard on horses and don't always treat they very well. Most treat them like they are disposable. They run them into the ground then move on to the next. And DON'T EVER send them a horse to break. They do it in a way that isn't very nice. They will break the horses spirit and the horses that they turn out are like zombies. I had a lot of experience with them when I was working with the race horses. They may be nice people, but I get very upset when it comes to them and their horses! As for fast, Trotters can run a mile in just under 3 minutes during a race, and pacers can go about 1min 50sec or around there. That is about 32 mph. We used to do training races and tried to keep it at about 3 minute miles.

I worked with a girl that took her horse to them to break they got a refund cuz they couldn't do it
I was in Geneva this weekend ..sunday I seen a bunch of Mennonites with buggies 4 with beautiful horses ...trotting down the road ...1 poor unkept one ..

My cat sleeps on top of the brooder guarding the peeps. How do I know she is guarding them, not casing the joint to eat them? Cuz she never puts her paw through the wire and when they get feathers and are warm enough without the light she stops guarding them. I do think she would come get me if the light failed in the night. She just walks around the adult birds, never gives them a second thought. (now let a mouse or mole run across the yard and she is all over that action. Sat waiting for the chipmunks to come out each morning, until the left their burrow earlier than I got up. Poor kitty. Nothing fun to do all day)

I hear ya Cass - Ginger cat is bored witless......nothing to chase, so he spends the day going out, coming in, going out, coming in...........he needs a full time door person!

I have a baby!!!!! My first ever!!! It's so rewarding hatching your own egg even if it is a mix. I think it's a Jersey Giant x EE..

I found that when my incubator temps are a little on the low side, it does take longer to hatch. I try to not have it that way but it's hard to adjust after they are already in for incubation. Congratulations!

Awww so cute! I wonder if there is a way you can make a little splint if he doesn't extend it in the next few days. Like by cutting a straw to size and then cutting down the side so you can wrap it around the straight part of the leg?? There's gotta be a thread on here somewhere to help you with that.
