NY chicken lover!!!!

Same here....way to many eggs, too few customers.  I wonder if putting up my "Eggs For Sale" might increase my sales?   But, to be honest, most of my past customers were men.  Now I have nothing against men, but I don't really like having men just showing up at my door asking for eggs.  I live in the country and can't even see my nearest neighbor's house (can see the chicken coop tho.LOL)   I will have to remember to take eggs to my Mom to take to 'work' with her on Tuesday.

I get $2.50 for mine and some people think that is high.  I say "$#&^* them, feed is getting higher almost monthly"

I gave a dozen to my mom this week too, but she prefers store bought because "ewww you don't wash the eggs". And we keep a dozen in the fridge for 3 weeks for hard boiling, so they are "old", yet she keeps store eggs for 3 weeks. *eye roll* did ask her though if any of her seniors would be interested, so may have a lead on one more customer. We get $2.50, one person insists on $3 for them. Amish neighbors only want to pay $1, so won't get any business there. We have been mixing the cheaper egg layer with the hearty hen to balance nutrition with feed price. And some cracked corn and oats. Must be they like it, laying machines are working.

I had DH wake me up to candle eggs last night. The NN still aren't fertile that are down in the barn. My newest frizzle NN layers are still in the upper barn in with my buff brahma bantam and maran mix roosters. Their eggs are fertile. DH went right down to the barn and moved the older more experienced ameraucana rooster in with the NN hens down there. I'm going to start collecting eggs from them in a few days and try again.

Rancher--Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Morning all. Woke up to more babies hatched and more pips in the remaining eggs. Some are black sexlinks so we know at least two are roos (they have the white spot on their heads). I think I finally have the whole hatching business down now. I will post pics in a bit. Now I just need my silkies to get laying! Getting lots of eggs from the girls now. My egg customers are happy again and so is my wallet. I get 3 dollars a dozen which just covers their feed bill. I know other people charge and get more but as long as the feed is covered, I am good with that.

Tab--maybe you should put the youngster next door so he can learn how to take care of the girls properly from watching experience in action!

Time to be domestic. This is my day of "leisure"...meaning laundry, vacuuming, cleaning, cooking, etc. Back later with pics.

Candled my eggs this morning that I set Thursday afternoon, looks like at least 5 are developing! Only 1 of the splash eggs looks like it's developing but the other two aren't...weird. Some of the eggs are hard to see thru so I'm not sure about those. Just super happy there is finally some development from my hens' eggs!!!

Lap, is that the one in Marathon? We haven't gone there in years, but we did go once in the late 70s and wearing my stylish frye boots, I got covered in mud helping to push a car that was stuck in the same mud. Time to try it again. No pushing or boot ruining this time, note to self.

LOL.... Are your mom's hand/arms broken? She *CAN* wash them herself. Right? Cuz that's what my mom does....and I tell her to, cuz she is a germaphobe. I tell her I wipe them but she needs to wash them before cracking them to use. And she does. I mean, free food is free food, right? And at today's prices, free is a great price.

The one and only Marathon Maple Festival. Don't be so certain on the mud, I have seen every possible weather scenario. 80 degrees and sunny, snowing, rain, mud, and one year cancelled the second day - I was helping pack jugs of syrup in boxes before the flood waters entered the building. Mud is the most common. My mom runs the Senior Center and spends the weekend making Maple Milkshakes. Yum.
Even though for us it is pretty much the same every year, we still go to check out all the arts and crafts, book sale in the Library, Pancake Breakfast at the Masons, eat BBQ chicken one day at the church, Maple Pulled Pork the other from the Historical Society, and always get Maple Cotton Candy from the Boy Scouts. Last year scored a wonderful Rooster sign for the kitchen.
