NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm not necessarily bashing the LG, because I know very well it works great for others and that's what frustrates me. I can't get it working properly for my hatches. I've tried it in different rooms, different times of the year, dry hatches, adding water to it to get humidity in the 30's. Nothing has worked. So it's just not for me. If anyone is interested in it I will gladly ship it you for free if you pay shipping. ;-)
I was not singling you out. It was the general vibe of the thread I was referencing .

Don't feel bad about having a hard time getting it to work. My is a pain in the butt too. I started to call it the murder box because whatever I put in there died, despite the fact that it was under the exact same conditions as my Styrofoam homemade incubator, the humidity was right, and the temperatures were right. This year it's working a little better for me so far. I wouldn't have tried it again at all if my homemade's thermostat hadn't kicked the bucket, and I still don't trust it as anything more than a hatcher.

before I let the girls do all of my hatching I used 2 LG's. And would again in a heart beat if I were to hatch Sumatra's to sell. I put the LG in a plywood box slightly larger than the LG itself, insulate around the base and keep it in a room with a stable temperature. Always had good steady temps and good hatches.

I think it is like anything. Put the time in to figure it out and it works. LG would not have the market share of the retail business if they never worked.

Plus brand bashing really annoys me. My .02
So, you actually modified it, didn't use it alone as a table hatcher. If it needs to be in its own box with insulation, then they might start making them that way. You had success because you tinkered and found what worked. Most people just put it on a table & let it go...I understand your irritation about brand bashing, but honestly, they do have a bad reputation, and its because people have difficult times using them "as is". I use my Genesis "as is" and it works without me doing anything else.

I really think that people buy the LG because its cheap, then they don't have much of a repeat business due to the difficulties they have with it.

Again, tell 20 people positive things, and 2 of them will repeat it, tell 20 people something negative, and they all will repeat it....human nature....

actually the 1st 2 hatches were not "tinkered" with. Just in it's own room. AND I liked it so much I bought a 2nd. So much for no repeat business.

On every other forum I go on, brand bashing is against the rules.

I put it in a plywood box because I am a wood worker. If I were a homemaker I would have just put it in a cardboard box. Would that still be "modifying" it????

I prefer to look at the positive. There is far too much negativity in the world. I won't be part of it. ANYTHING can have a positive to it. IF you try

Well, we can agree to disagree about LGs then. They have a bad rep for a reason.. I will positively recommend a Genesis over an LG. I have had a bad experience with one, so that is my conclusion. well duh! At at least twice the price it had BETTER be BETTER . That is like comparing a Yugo to a Cadillac

Work computer still won't let me post/reply and we have been without Internet 2 days at home, feel like I've been deprived a week!
Checked over all the little chickies, getting a general idea of who is boy/girl with tiny wattles starting to show. Also found that my exotic looking chick isn't a golden penciled hamburg, but actually a Buttercup. Tiny crown on her head. Cottonball is showing splash color and tiny wattles, still hoping for pullet :( The little bantam hubby picked out is definite boy, always boy attitude, very late feathering and tiny wattles starting. But the fun part is rose comb and color appears to be blue-laced red, so maybe a BLRW banty? He is very heavy for his size, named him Chunk.
The unknown bantam breed is kinda fun to see how they will progress.

I had trouble with the LG...one time it was my fault...I am much happier letting a hen do the job ..
I think most people do buy it because it is cheaper...& a smaller investment when they are starting out

What a Gorgeous Day ! I spent it outside doing yard / garden work .
Getting Stones out of the lawn & my flower gardens from plows & snow thrower
AND IT WAS BABIES DAY OUT !

I put them in a small cage & on my old garden cart & away we go ..to where I am working .
Then I let them out . As it the first day ...they didnt want to go inside the cage ..
They will be better once they figure out their going outside .

Can I just say something? Brand bashing or no, I prefer folks to discuss difficulties they've had with a certain incubator...if there are quite a few people having issues with a certain brand, I'd like to know that, so I can avoid wasting money on something that may give me the same issues many others have had.

I can't see why that's "brand bashing".
