NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. Warm this morning thank goodness. Had a delightful day outside yesterday getting some much needed sun and more importantly some much needed chicken therapy. I like my chickens more than I like people sometimes. I sat out in the yard for a bit and the terrorists hung out with me, eating the new greenery coming up. I had Junior and his girl out at the same time but there were no issues between him and Bill. They stayed away from each other and just looked every once in a while. I left the sliding door open a little downstairs so the brats could enjoy some fresh air along with the sun coming in. They were all lined up at the door of their brooder soaking up the sun and looking out the window. I made them eggs this morning and they liked that. I am hoping the warming trend continues as I would like to get them outdoors.

My only comment on bators is this, you have to figure out what works best for you. The room I have my bators in is the warmest room in the house but the temp does fluctuate in there from time to time. With my first hatch this year (the brats) I had to wrap my daughters sweatshirt around the bator as it was having some difficulty holding a constant temp and humidity. When I did that, it was fine. I like to think outside the box if something isnt working right. What can I do to get something to work as it should? What am I doing wrong that I could do better or different? Just my thoughts on the subject. I learn something each time I hatch and hope that I continue to learn no matter how many years I do it.

Stony--microwave.

Glad to hear you had a good hatch Pyxis. I have 8 blues and the rest splash silkie eggs due to hatch and the end of the month. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Everyone have a good day. Im off to the pharm...its friday...means stock up for the weekend drug day!

Pretty sure the whole incubator conversation is being blown WAY the heck out of proportion.

Anyways, I set my Brinsea for the first time this week with some Barred Rock, BRxEE, Black Australorps, Buff Orps, and Speckled Sussex.

Then, some BCM, Cochin and EExEE arrived yesterday and I ran out of room in the Brinsea, so I ran the local eggs I was incubating over to the neighbor's incubator (he has a cabinet one...no idea the brand). Minimal turning for my shipped eggs...hopefully I can get the floating air cells to stabilize. I REALLY want those BCM and Cochin eggs to hatch well.

excuse me. This is a PERSONAL ATTACK which is CLEARLY against the rules.

I put it in a box as I wanted EVEN better hatches. I bought a 2nd to hatch chickens and ducks at the same time. I bought a 2nd as I NEEDED a 2nd.

I m not saying they are the best. Simply saying they can and do work, no reason to personally attack and jump to conclusions.

You know what? THIS type of behaviour is WHY I left BYC in the 1st place. Not a nice place.

Not a personal attack but saying it wasn't an intelligent conversation was a personal attack. The people that were against the incubator stated why and you stated your opinion which You are entitled to your opinion to which I kept quiet until you started saying that it wasn't an intelligent conversation. To which I replied defending the conversation and again stating why the incubator is no good for hatching eggs nothing personal there and if you think you are being personally attacked because I asked why you put them in a box with insulation if they were so great it was a logical question the conversation was about how they don't hold steady temps which is an important feature of an incubator one which you stated got great hatches from but then put in a box with insulation. So no personal attack just trying to get the right information out there so maybe others won't be disappointed when they purchase it and use the incubator as per the instructions and they loose most of their eggs because the incubator does not hold steady temps.

Like has been said before you are entitled to your opinion but so are others entitled to have an opinion

Hi all, I'm off to get my chicken therapy today! Have been working like a demon lately - as Pharm says 'I like my chickens a whole lot more than many of my 'customers'

I need to get the smaller coop finished ready for the 'little ones'. They are about 4 weeks now and growing like weeds! The big girls will doubtless be supervising the build...... they have finally accepted the 2 Marans I introduced back in December. My RIR Sonja thinks she's a rooster and tries to mount the orange splash Maran

Pharm thanks for the little chuckle as a nurse I completely understand the stock up for weekend drug day.

I value all of you and your opinions. What I don't value is the discord or the insistence that ones opinion is the final word and all should accept it. Last night this quote kept off the page."As Nietzsche put it, "you have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist."" now don't worry, I was not reading heavy stuff, it was a cookbook.
The Feed Zone Cookbook by Biju Thomas and Allen Lim.

We all have opinions and experiences, all are equal. I like you all, please don't squabble, just do it your way.

Stony - I enjoy your posts, pictures and projects ... I don't have an incubator, so I was out of this whole she-bang.

As an objective observer - and one who has shared info and thoughts with you and really enjoyed your take on many subjects ....

I think you offered your opinion but got grumpy when some others expanded on theirs. I didn't see any personal attack until you called the convo unintelligent.

I think you got a little too close to this issue for some reason. I hope you take a deep breath and just go on.

We all have our pet issues that can cause us to get wound up - so we should always afford others the opportunity to come back from getting that ramped up. (I am meaning you here, not the others - I want to be clear). No one is asking you not keep on here - but only that you can reach that line where you just shake your head at someone you disagree with and then go on after your position has been laid out.

I found the information informative and wouldn't cause me NOT to get an LG - but to be VERY careful in what room and situation I placed it - so I think that was helpful. I am hoping a broody hen will go back to broody and I won't need one - but I do want to keep my line going and may get an incubator next spring if she doesn't hatch for me.

WE have bluebirds house hunting. I saw four swooping around the house we put up near my raised gardens, and one female was checking out the one that is less desirable, 4 feet from my kitchen window. I am worried they will all decide to pass on these properties due to the neighbors. I tried to look pleasant, and have had discussions with the girls, so we shall see.
