NY chicken lover!!!!

HI Folks! I'm back. Got tied up trading with Etrade, was fun, made $. Then the company that we brought online for sales went nuts, and I've been just trying to keep it flowing, with good inventory control! Of course in the meantime I had to get a mani/pedi. Decided what the heck, we've been together for a long time. Let's have a Vegas wedding. Picked out the wedding gown yesterday, beautiful beaded top with white tulle puffy skirt. Of course that means, at my age, I have to start working out like crazy. 40 push ups a day, the girly ones. It's a start.

The chickens are still in our kitchen. They sleep/roost in an XL dog crate at night. Fredo crows at 7 or 8 or 9 am. We keep them up late watching tv...hahahahaha. Then I take them out and place them in a very large, long box in the kitchen where they may eat/drink, but they also have a buffet in their XL dog crate. They get to fly around if they want. The silkie just stands in one spot, stares into space, it may be autistic. It is antisocial! We clean their area every day, and they have their own dyson vacuum. They are just lovely. They enjoy bath's too. We put a tiny bit (drop) of dish soap in the sink and warm water and they just sit there in it. Is tide better than dish soap? Someone said use tide for white birds, or was that just for color cleansing?

Just curious, how often can a chicken be washed? We've only washed them a couple times, and they LOVE it! We blow dry the feathers, and then let them style under their heat lamp. Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with the posts! You all are just lovely! I adore the chicken photos and advice that you all post. It's been most helpful. Thanks everyone!

WE have bluebirds house hunting. I saw four swooping around the house we put up near my raised gardens, and one female was checking out the one that is less desirable, 4 feet from my kitchen window. I am worried they will all decide to pass on these properties due to the neighbors. I tried to look pleasant, and have had discussions with the girls, so we shall see.

I hope the neighbors improve for you! We used to live in a village - seemed we were stuck between the neighborhood gossip and the bipolar alcoholic - oh joy!! Since we moved to the country it's been bliss. Our neighbors are 1/4 mile away and are delightful people. We too have bluebirds house hunting and we have a Carolina wren that has taken up residence on the back porch, despite 2 cats & 2 dogs! And our Phoebe is back in the eaves - 3 years in a row. Have a great weekend,

My little ball of fluff:

Seems to be doing ok still even tho it's by itself. Keeps cuddling up against the fluffy kitty stuffed animal. Every once in a while it chirps loudly and I'll go up there and hold it and sing soft kitty to it (kidding!). Just don't know how long it's going stay quiet when it realized it's the only thing moving around in there....

Hi Boskelli -

You sound like my kind of (country) person: cherishes their privacy AND loves the birding world!

I love the Phoebes -- to me, they are one of the most welcome returning birds of spring. Their scratchy little song always sounds cheerful to me! This little one and his/her significant other are preparing to set up a happy home around my horse's barn again this spring. They just returned this week!

PS: jealous of your Carolina Wren nesting at your house; they are adorable and beautiful singers!

Oh, this little chick is just so beautiful. Hoping for a good progress report soon.

Wait, what kind of bird is this again? Are they really tiny? Last summer, we had this teeny tiny bird that looked just like that one, hanging out in one of our trees...it was a baby, and its parents were squawking up a storm higher up in the tree. Well we found it at the base of the tree, and because we didn't want our very interested dog to get it, we carefully placed him on a low branch, where he perched for quite some time. Next thing I knew, he was perched next to my shoulder while I was lying on the hammock which was attached to that tree.

He hung around for some time, his parents making quite the racket, until eventually, he flew off into the shrubby part of our property. I always wondered what kind of bird it was.
