they are teeny tiny . They make a nest in my old clothes pin bag .

They are small enough that when they are on the line they look like a clothes pin

they kind of look like this

Swainson's Warbler only more brown ..And when they sing I can hear them in the house with the windows closed .

I wish I had an idea to help you the only thing I have heard has already been suggested keep in dark, soak, and use peperation H. I hope someone can give you some help on it.

That's what I have been doing - keeping her in the brooder box. Took her off layer feed. I'm going to try cleaning her up again tomorrow and letting her sit in some warm water. I did the preparation h thing too, I'm already all out of that! :-/

Honey. Have you tried honey with the Prep H? It's anticeptic. And natural. I feel your pain. The ONLY bird I wanted from Annie (while she was stuffing the box with every chick she didn't want) died the same week it laid it's first egg from a prolapse I didn't realize until it was too late to do anything. Was dead before I could get to store for Prep H the next day. (I am not the most observent chicken mom, it seems. I had a roo that had string around his ankles for 2 days before I realized I hadn't seen him for 2 days. Ooops.)

I would be willing to bet you have house wrens setting up. Everything you say fits the bill, right down to their choice of a nest site. They will even come inside your house. They are dynamic, tiny birds that have a huge voice. Very loud, bubbly and persistent song. They will sing over and over all day long. Check them out and see if you've got a match, Gramma! http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/House_Wren/id

Added Note: I wouldn't doubt that a House Wren might be Sweetpea's mystery bird, too. Tiny and non-descript looking and making a racket. That's a house wren for you.

Spent a lot of time outside today. While I was hanging up laundry this morning I saw such a funny sight. My speckled sussex rooster (LF) on my little D'Uccle (tiny bantam). He is so big and she is so tiny. It was funny watching him try to balance on her tiny back. What a combo that will be. As soon as the eggs start being fertile I'm going to have to get a few hatched out.

I need to start to clean up some of the straw around the chicken run. They have spread it all over the place. It is a mess. I need to get some cheap fencing soon. I'm going to block off the run in sections and try to reseed it so that the grass can grow again. If it works well this year I will plan on doing it every spring. Now if it could stay warm.

Anyone have any ideas left for my frizzled polish hen with the prolapsed vent?? I'm ready to bring her to a vet I'm just really so upset over this. I've gotten really attached to her in this short amount of time. And THEN tonight, while talking to someone online, I find out she hatched from an egg from some well known breeder apparently. Has anyone ever heard of "Two Llama's and a Whole Lotta Drama"?? Well the name given to her by this woman who hatched her out who obviously got eggs from this breeder, named her "Lotta". What can I do to keep from losing her if her vent doesn't get better??
Also try the honey . I had a new layer ...it helped . the honey helps it heal itself . She will always have a odd shaped vent ..
But she continues to lay

We have downys, hairy, red bellied and a couple of pileated woodpeckers. The pileated are very shy tho' we see them flying over but rarely see them on the ground. Waiting on the yellowthroats to return - they are so pretty with their bandit mask! Last year the Beagles disturbed a woodcock in the marsh grass - first and only one I've seen! I could spend hours out there bird watching, they certainly love this wetland area. Wondering if the Green Heron will come back and nest again this year. They had 2 babies last year, I really must get a good, but cheapish camera. Any recommendations??

Boskelli - I love Common Yellowthroats, too. They are adorable. Like a little Zorro with wings! Woodcocks are being sighted now. I've only seen them high up in aerial displays (breeding time of year) but never up close. My friend in Ontario just saw one today! She got a nice pic of it, as well. This morning I took a short walk at a local nature area and got 16 species of birds tallied in about half an hour -- the Pileated included. The best is yet to come. I think May is the best month for diverse sightings. Enjoy the season!

I wish I knew more about bird identification...we have a ton of varieties. But I think my favorite would have to be the heron (I think it's a heron...long legs) that flies from our marsh over to the neighbors and back. So gorgeous. They haven't returned yet, but soon I think.

Right now...my Fantastic Four are outside playing on the swingset. Life is grand. :)

Sweetpea, you should see Gramma's post/question. She jogged my memory, and I'm thinking she has a House Wren and that might also be your mystery bird from last year. They're tiny & very noisy....! If you have a tall gray-blue heron, you've got a Great Blue Heron. There are other types of herons, but that's the "big guy!" Another common one here is the Green Heron. Looks like a squat hunchback with long legs (but not nearly as long as Great Blue) and it's a pretty green and cinnamon color. Both are awesome fisher-birds and catchers of all things creepy crawly!

Oh, Lynzi - I'm sorry and hope you can help her to recover. I saw that Cass suggested honey and Prep H -- did you see that post?

Good luck!!
