Tab's chicken obsession :

I enjoyed the swap on saturday even though the buyer turnout wasn't that great. My girls loved playing with the other kids. Fiona woke up this morning and said "I want to go to the chicken show again mommy"

Mother's Day was going good at the Rochester zoo until we got a call that our fence was down and the horses were loose. Someone called the cops and 911. We received 6 calls telling us they were loose and that was it. I freaked. We're 2 hours away and I know they're scared from being chased by strangers. To top it off a neighbor I've never met was trash talking us to the sheriff. She said we don't take care of our animals because they were covered it burdock. The sheriff told my parents that if my horses get out again we can be sued and that we will probably be ticketed. They're going to check with our vet and farrier.

It bothers me that people judge you and haven't taken the time to know you. The neighbor has 2 horses so they know everything there is know. (sarcasm) My horses were in heat and I'm sure that was part of the problem.

The second half of Mother's Day was a nightmare. We left for home immediately, didn't stop to eat or anything. By the end of the night I was sick.

Hey, I am sorry! That is totally not called for!...My kids had a good time also...tho I should have given you my kids when Nanette thought they were yours!...I would have then had the 2 and you would have had five!..I hope they have the sale again next year..I think some people may have sold lots.. Next time plz call me and I would gladly go over and see if I can help...crap the horses over this way have gotten out and us in the neighborhood help put them back! How are things in general? Hope it improves!

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all!

Cant have them in the village of Minoa either, well not without a special variance. I learned that after having chickens for almost a year. I am now in the process of getting a variance. Ill tell you what after all the hassle and money I am going to have a nice chick farm HAHA

You're kidding!!!! What about the person with all the goats, sheep & chickens there??? I feel bad because I can't remember her name.
hu.gif
Do you have to get your variance from the town of Manlius?! EEK! We have to fight them over our tax assessments on our house & our pole barn which is on a different parcel. What a pain in the butt! Gotta love red tape.

I hope you get your variance!

SO ---- We had a teenage Ameraucana rooster decide to fly over the fence in his pen & rather than spending the afternoon free-ranging, he jumped right into the Orpington pen. Big mistake! I heard a ruckus coming from the coops & there he was -- the big dummy -- with his head in the corner & 6 huge Orpington girls beating the snot out of him!!!
lau.gif
I knew they were tough, but you should've seen the feathers! The Orp boys are in the next pen so the girls can have a break.... good thing, because Elton & Adam probably would've actually killed him!

My Ameraucanas are terrible escape artists, I had to put poultry netting up on their pen (which collapsed during the first snow!) and if there is a way to get out of the pen, they find it! Plus they would much rather prefer to roost on top of my rabbit cages (ick) than either of the coops. At least the silkies stay where I put them!

We're out in the boonies, so pretty much anything goes. Our neighbor across the street has "Free Range" horses.
ep.gif
I'm waiting for that to turn horribly wrong, seems like a stupid thing "Oh, they won't go anywheres" Yeah, until my dog finally can't stand it anymore and runs across the road and chases it... I can tell she can't stand it, she doesn't chase it because I've trained her fairly well, but she'll stand out there and bark and bark and bark at the darn thing standing in the field across the street!

I only have one Ameraucana that doesn't think he's Houdini... he's enormous, so maybe he doesn't fly as well as the smaller boys. This is why I need a hoop house! Just for a mobile, self contained bachelor pad! One of the poultry mags had pics of individual ones for cockbirds. I kinda like that idea.

Free Range Horses! My younger dog wouldn't be able to handle that, I don't think. She's a Golden who thinks she's an LGD.

She chases off the "killer deer" that come to the edge of our yard...lol. I'm sure she would think a horse was going to eat her chickens too!

Sounds like a nightmare. I can't stand my neighbors and they are in close proximity. You got the horses safe and sound, right?

The horses are good. Daisy buried her head in my belly when I got there, that's her horsey hug. Last night we bought supplies for all the things we needed for necessary animal projects (fence, lean to repair, doghouse repair, etc.). Thank the lord for my Lowes card. My sister is picking up the new electric fencer today because TSC hadn't finihed unloaded the truck yet and it was empty on the shelf last night. My solar fencer is going to move to the small pasture.
My girls have been monsters the past 2 days. While one is unloading the toy box the other is dumping vinegar on the floor then ripping pages from a book then unrolling the paper towels and screaming because they can. This morning the farrier came and in the 2 minutes it took for my sister to get downstairs they had smashed eggs that were collected this morning all over the tape case and floor. They know my total concentration isn't on them.
this is how I feel.

Wow! You are the quintessential character in those "Calgon take me away" commercials! I hope you get a chance to sit back, relax and take a breather.
