You're kidding!!!! What about the person with all the goats, sheep & chickens there??? I feel bad because I can't remember her name.
Do you have to get your variance from the town of Manlius?! EEK! We have to fight them over our tax assessments on our house & our pole barn which is on a different parcel. What a pain in the butt! Gotta love red tape.
I hope you get your variance!
SO ---- We had a teenage Ameraucana rooster decide to fly over the fence in his pen & rather than spending the afternoon free-ranging, he jumped right into the Orpington pen. Big mistake! I heard a ruckus coming from the coops & there he was -- the big dummy -- with his head in the corner & 6 huge Orpington girls beating the snot out of him!!!
I knew they were tough, but you should've seen the feathers! The Orp boys are in the next pen so the girls can have a break.... good thing, because Elton & Adam probably would've actually killed him!
My Ameraucanas are terrible escape artists, I had to put poultry netting up on their pen (which collapsed during the first snow!) and if there is a way to get out of the pen, they find it! Plus they would much rather prefer to roost on top of my rabbit cages (ick) than either of the coops. At least the silkies stay where I put them!
We're out in the boonies, so pretty much anything goes. Our neighbor across the street has "Free Range" horses.
I'm waiting for that to turn horribly wrong, seems like a stupid thing "Oh, they won't go anywheres" Yeah, until my dog finally can't stand it anymore and runs across the road and chases it... I can tell she can't stand it, she doesn't chase it because I've trained her fairly well, but she'll stand out there and bark and bark and bark at the darn thing standing in the field across the street!
I only have one Ameraucana that doesn't think he's Houdini... he's enormous, so maybe he doesn't fly as well as the smaller boys. This is why I need a hoop house! Just for a mobile, self contained bachelor pad! One of the poultry mags had pics of individual ones for cockbirds. I kinda like that idea.
Free Range Horses! My younger dog wouldn't be able to handle that, I don't think. She's a Golden who thinks she's an LGD.
She chases off the "killer deer" that come to the edge of our yard...lol. I'm sure she would think a horse was going to eat her chickens too!
