NY chicken lover!!!!

Pyxis so sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks all for the advice/info on the heated waterers for chickens and dog bowls. And the info about them not requiring heat. You folks are making it too easy and we're probably going to come down with Morehens disease!

Traveled for business to Long Island, Manhattan, and then got lost in NJ on the way back. Oh dear lord my allergies are aweful, feel like my head's going to explode. I was expecting this reaction from the chickens, not from the warm beautiful weather and beautiful flowering plants!

This was 1st trip away from the birds for all day, and wow, what a greeting we got when we came home. I mean, since hatching, the birds have been with us nearly every minute of every day. Fredo couldn't stop crowing. I told DH, he heard you, you have to go, he's not going to stop until you go talk to him. They finally fell asleep.

BTW, all 3 are together again and doing good. No heads rolled while we were away. Thanks folks for all the advice! It helps a lot!

Pyxis- I'm so sorry about your grandfather. I wish I had spent more time with my grandparents as I could have learned so much with them.

Yes, my gross dogs eat chicken poop, Ugh!

I have 13 new babies, actually 14. One has a leg that won't stretch out and I am going to take care of it in the morning. I've had splayed legs a couple of times but never ever anything like this. Tried to research why but there were so many reasons I couldn't begin to know. I can't even make the chicks leg by pulling it out. Seems to be frozen in place. Makes me feel very sad. I'd love to attend the picnic later this month but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to come up with a good reason for putting all those cat carriers in the car, maybe taking them to the car wash?

Boarder collie loves rabbit poop seems to help his breath last two months his been on carrot, apple, papaya (natural dewormier) kick hasn't been touching the poo. Now if could keep sheltie out of the cat pain.
We've been in our house 14 years, pretty sure we're boarding on being hoarders and now that we're in forties our parents demanded we get all our childhood stuff out of their houses-).

Here's a chicken poop question........but not the usual kind about appearance and health!

I am wondering: does anyone else's dog(s) eat chicken poop? I like to let my hens free range at least a little while every other day or so. They love it. But they poop, of course. It's pretty nasty to see my younger dog go wild for the poop. Even if I reprimand her, she still eats it (or tries to). She is a very affectionate dog, always trying to lick us, and that's a bit of a turn off!!!!!!!

Between that and the close-call with a red-tail hawk last week, I am reconsidering the free ranging jaunts.

My Beagles absolutely ADORE chicken poop.......eat it every chance they can

The resulting Beagle gas is horrendous - can empty a room in seconds! I have given up trying to stop them since I don't have eyes in the back of my head (a genetic failing I think)

Our neighbors have gone out of town so DH stays there at night. I watched Hoarders, buried alive and stayed up until 2am just cleaning my bedroom. I feel the same way you do only I can always see the floor. Can u imagine walking on debris 3-4 ft deep just to get from one room to another? lol

Pyxis I am so sorry.

This is what I was told by my vet as to why dogs eat other animals poop the other animals do not completely digest all of their food so the dog smells the undigested food and thinks they are having a feast

That makes sense....still GROSS, but makes sense!!!

Oh, My dog follows the chickens around waiting for something to come out! Sometimes she nudges their back side to facilitate the process. I swear she thinks of them as pez dispensers for poop!

This made me LOL!!

Yuppers my Lily loves to try and sneak in behind me to eat chicken poop. Goose & deer poop is her 2nd favorite. I'm just thankful she doesn't eat dog poop lol

Blaise's toy ball rolled in her own poop the other day and she wouldn't go near it. She is a poop snob, apparently. Only every other creature on God's Green Earth will suffice!

Ohhhh....! They are adorable little puff balls!!!! Love the little chipmunk pattern on the back and butt!

I wondered about the risk of parasites -- eating all the multi-species animal poop, especially the wild ones -- but both dogs are on wormer and a fecal exam of the younger dog's OWN poop this week was a clean specimen......"clean" as is no worms, mind you, LOL!

We call doggy gas the "Purple Haze." My dog that passed away this past winter had gas that could be used in warfare...his was more like Agent Orange. Luckily, the new pup doesn't have too noxious a formula, despite her disgusting taste for Poopi-Sushi.

I guess the consensus is to RELAX and "LET THEM EAT POOP!"

Thanks for the feedback, gang!

Morning all. Another beautiful day. Too bad I have to work. The silkie babies are doing well and look great. The second set of reds enjoyed the sun and fresh air in their brooder yesterday and were passed out by 8pm. Didnt even open and eye when I opened the door to give them fresh water. The brats out in the coop have figured out how to get up to the top of the nest boxes. I opened the door this morning to give them fresh water and the boys all charged at me. One barred rock boy grabbed me and I grabbed him right back just as quick. He screamed like a little girl and ran off. Have to get the run and skirting set up this sunday so the little monsters can go outside and wreak havoc in the run.

Timmy came to visit the bawkbawks last night. He is quite mobile now so he was walking all around behind the chickens. Bill got a little nervous a couple of times when Tim got close but he was good and moved away nervously bawking. I was right there to run interference just in case. Tim sat down at one point and was picking grass and throwing it at one of the hens who was hanging around. He got a little nervous when she actually grabbed a piece from his fingers but was okay about it when I told him she was eating his grass. The cheeps were good about being around him and he was enjoying the interaction. He had to go say hi to the babies in the coop. Too cute him looking in the mesh door and the lot of them all looking out at him.

Yeah, my dog was a poop eater too and then he would want to come and give you kisses. Or he would roll in something truly vile and want you to pet him. Dogs just like nasty things.

Have a good day !
