NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm so bummed to be stuck inside working today :( The weather seems to finally be decent which makes it the hardest to actually be motivated to come to work and sit here all day.

As far as the poop eating goes, both of my dogs do it endlessly. I take my muck boots off in the house and put them on a mat by the front door and as soon as I take them off the dogs charge toward them to lick them. I'm working on training them to leave them alone. It's disgusting...

Also, last night I realized I have 5 broody hens...ick The EE under the front porch I don't think is going to hatch anything. I'm pretty sure she's already been under there 21 days. However I also have another EE, a sebright, a BO mix, and a Partridge Rock that are broody. I'm going to try and break the 2 EE's, BO mix, and Sebright but the PR is a nasty broody so I gave her 6 eggs to sit on. We'll see.

Here's my free list for the month...

5 Coronation Cockerels, yes 5....sigh. They are about 5 months old, so if not for breeding, stew...
2 Porcelain silkie cockerels 6 months old. Nice for breedinng if you have buffs or lavenders, donn't have time to deal with them.

1 Coronation pullet, reason I'm offering her is she got bad frost bite on her toes, and walks a little funny. And I thought she was a cockerel, so I had her inn with the 5 boys...she is timid so would have to be introduced to a flock slowly. Otherwise, she will lay eggs, I just have too many chickens to deal with her. Same age as cockerels.

Looking to place them asap, do not want to wait for chickenstock so I will put on Craigslist next week if they aren't gone by then.

Boarder collie loves rabbit poop seems to help his breath last two months his been on carrot, apple, papaya (natural dewormier) kick hasn't been touching the poo. Now if could keep sheltie out of the cat pain.
We've been in our house 14 years, pretty sure we're boarding on being hoarders and now that we're in forties our parents demanded we get all our childhood stuff out of their houses-).

Oh I know how you feel. I moved from my gorgeous house after a divorce into a house owned by 2 relatives. They decided that they may as well go ahead and store all their "stuff" here. So when I moved in I literally had boxes floor to ceiling, for years.

Nearly all of my stuff is gone, my beautiful marble and brass coffee table, couch, beds, etc. and I'm still buried in their "stuff". Then met new DH and we have so many businesses that most spare space is consumed with packing peanuts, boxes, etc. I call the boxes in our room the "twin towers". Because of allergies I'm constantly changing bedding, ironing, and doing floors, when I'm not tied up with business stuff. We hope to move as soon as our house is built. I'm leaving everything, except for my few items, my business stuff, my rooms of packing peanuts, and our birds. Folks asked me if I want my items from childhood and I said, "no, thank you very much. please throw everything out." I'm sure it's all still sitting in their house. It's really hard to keep up with it all, especially when there are literally boxes of paperwork from the businesses.

This morning DH is like, "hey, there's a chicken walking around." I left the dog crate open and one flew out. So we took them all out. I told him to be very careful because people say our Fredo may be vicious or attack because he's a rooster. Oh did he get a kick out of that. He's like, "Yeah, ok"

then asked the bird if it was going to attack him. Fredo's now protecting his hens from the pots and pans in the kitchen.

I read an article where kittens crawled in a box and after it was shipped out came 2 kittens (apparently it was the next day). Can you imagine unpacking a box and a chicken flying out or a mail person delivering mail and hearing it cluck or crow?

[COLOR=FF0000]Thakt makes sense....still GROSS, but makes sense!!![/

It is gross my 2 females do it but my males don't

Morning all.  Another beautiful day.  Too bad I have to work.  The silkie babies are doing well and look great.  The second set of reds enjoyed the sun and fresh air in their brooder yesterday and were passed out by 8pm.  Didnt even open and eye when I opened the door to give them fresh water.  The brats out in the coop have figured out how to get up to the top of the nest boxes.  I opened the door this morning to give them fresh water and the boys all charged at me.  One barred rock boy grabbed me and I grabbed him right back just as quick.  He screamed like a little girl and ran off.  Have to get the run and skirting set up this sunday so the little monsters can go outside and wreak havoc in the run.

Timmy came to visit the bawkbawks last night.  He is quite mobile now so he was walking all around behind the chickens.  Bill got a little nervous a couple of times when Tim got close but he was good and moved away nervously bawking.  I was right there to run interference just in case.  Tim sat down at one point and was picking grass and throwing it at one of the hens who was hanging around.  He got a little nervous when she actually grabbed a piece from his fingers but was okay about it when I told him she was eating his grass.  The cheeps were good about being around him and he was enjoying the interaction.  He had to go say hi to the babies in the coop.  Too cute him looking in the mesh door and the lot of them all looking out at him.

Yeah, my dog was a poop eater too and then he would want to come and give you kisses.  Or he would roll in something truly vile and want you to pet him.  Dogs just like nasty things.

Have a good day !

Pharm your stories about the brats and the terrorist make me smile every day

just sent you a message

Morning Everyone,
Question...Anyone have any idea why two of my 3 female ducks have stopped laying? I was getting 3 eggs a day for the last few months and now for the last week I've only gotten 1. One blue egg from my one blue runner hen. The KC and the black Runner are on strike apparently. Neither is broody...just find it odd that both have stopped the same day and both haven't laid an egg in over a week. I can see if the KC gave one Monday and the Runner gave one on Tuesday but it's like they're playing a game of hide the eggs.
