NY chicken lover!!!!

Took a new picture of Emma today. She is feathering in nicely (as are all the other chicklets too). I try to handle them every day so that they get used to us touching them without pecking us hopefully . She is so beautiful - of course I am a biased chicken mommy =). few more weeks and she wont have any fuzz left =(

Not sure about the dead chickens. What size were they? Are you sure there are no marks anywhere? A weasel will kill a chicken and leave almost no trace. They kill for sport too. They will leave tiny puncture marks which can be hard to see. Just a thought.

Enjoy the evening everyone.
Not saying that it isn't a weasel but we've never seen one here so far (10yr) but today we were outside all day including when the attack happened. The chickens carry on very loudly during the attack and the intruder has to go in the chicken door. We ck'd the perimeter very carefully around the coop, no dig in marks. I did find a large pile of grains 6 ft up on a 2x4 inside the coop. All 3 chickens all adults (2 are dead and this 3rd one had a narrow escape) Why aren't the broodies being targeted? This is Edie's Sister after we cleaned her up. She seems ok so far.

Ohhh....sorry about the loss of your chickens and sure hope this girl is OK and that you can find the culprit.

2 of Lucy's sisters are broodie right now. Every day I reach under both and get the eggs. They fluff up, growl and act vicious but never have touched me.

Just a moment to reply to this. that would be nice.

The news for DW was not as we had hoped but not completely bad. We'll know more Monday. I'm kinda okay. It's been a long day.

Thanks everyone for your prayers.
Rancher I hope your wife has a quick painless recovery will continue praying for you guys and will pray you get some better news on Monday.

I have 2 silkies who are broodie at the moment so think I will give them some eggs tomorrow.

Wow, missed a day and doing catch up.

Rancher, so sorry to hear about your DW, she is in our daily prayers for good health and fast healing. I am bringing a lot of the red raspberry strands/starts. If Glasshen or anyone would like to pick some up for you that would be great! They make very large plump red raspberries. You will enjoy them!

There should be enough strands for most to take them if they would like. Pharm, I'll be with the one with the extra egg cartons, deviled eggs, and red raspberry strands. The folks just pruned their large strands and there are a LOT of small strands everywhere. They planted a single strand in the back yard and now have a yard full of red raspberry plants and they've even traveled to the front of the house. So plant them in a roomy area if you want a lot, and an area that you can prune them easily. The folks ended up having to make "paths" in between the bushes for easier picking!

Well my chickens are eating less layer ...and free ranging more ...
Laying less eggs now 2 or three a day ..
Guess what I got today ?

a totally shell less egg ..perfect for hard boiling !
Im wondering if I am adding too much liquid to the fermented feed or what ..
Im thinking I may have to buy some oyster shell or something ...for more calcium for them
