Kill Bill vol 1 OMG
gig.gif

LOVED that - made my morning and almost got coffee all over my screen.

Had a great time at the picnic - I was sure impressed at all the tasty food - you guys know how to whip up a yummy dish.

DH who takes or leaves chickens - was holding the new frizzle teen, I was holding new Marans ..... he petted her and Frizzle-ton .... what a horrid name, but he LIKES HER !!!! TAB - you don't know how cool that is....

Two new ones will get some sun today and I will rest - long drive - but very worth it ..... Had a ton of fun, learned lots, put lots of faces to names - apologies to anyone I didn't seek out - it was a bit overwhelming to a quieter person like me - but very very great .... can't wait until next year.

Quote: The salmonella can be inside the egg the chicken infected lays. That is one of the major reasons people get sick from it. Birds can live with the infection and pass it through their eggs. Eating undercooked eggs, and handling the animals or eggs is how it is contracted. Its a problem. I'm so glad I didn't buy any from TSC, although I went there looking....

This is a big problem. Do you know how often my kids lick the bowl when I'm making cakes and brownies? I don't know what to do now. And does this mean the birds i hatched but have been brooding with the tsc birds are likely infected? Is there a test to know for sure?

Any egg can contain salmonella which is why they say not to let the kids lick the beaters and to make sure that your eggs are fully cooked. Now I am not saying to stop doing what you are doing as I still lick the bowl and have done it for over 40 years the only time I have ever gotten salmonella food poisoning was from a Burger King whopper. I am not worried about any of this I wash my hands after handling my birds or eggs and always wash my eggs before use from there I figure I have done the best I can.

Salmonella is kinda all around us .... the issue is usually USUALLY - an Overload of ingestion when a particular item is just infested with Salmonella..... and then the bag S-bugs win out over our good gut bugs for a while - and we get sick. If you have plenty of room, dust baths, sun (sun kills any surface bacteria), fresh clean water ... you won't have an overload of bad bugs (bugs here = germs = bacteria)

Healthy people are much less susceptible to Salmonella, most not showing any illness after ingestion of small to even moderate amounts. People ill from other issues are more likely to get sick - so don't lick the bowl when you have a cold or are being treated for something else.

I've been licking bowls and beaters for over 40 years too .... only sick from restaurant food twice. So if your birds are healthy - you wash up, you wash any eggs before cracking them (I do not do this - but it is an extra measure if you are worried) ... you should not have any problem -but there is NO guarantee for anything.

I have a first time broody pheonix hen sitting on 7 EE eggs. The eggs are set to hatch next week. But I just brought home 6 pheonix chicks. How is the best way to switch them and put the eggs in the bator . Also she is in a nesting box on the wall ... Where is a good spot to move her. Is on the ground in a hidden corner good. This is my first time.

Anyone know where Clydes gets their chicks from? This is where I bought mine this year....and I have them mingling with the meat chicks so I sure hope they dont have anything. How would I know? Are there any signs?
