my broody just got off her eggs this is what I found. Due to hatch this week... What should I do????

You are holding up upside down in the picture....if it is due to hatch in a week, it is standing on it's head, poor thing. As far as what to do, you could try sealing it with low temp melt candle wax....that wouldn't be that hard for the chick to break through.

If it were me? (Cuz I am curious and have to many chickens already) I would either just throw it away or put it back under the chicken and see what happens. Worst case you don't get a chick from that egg. Best case? It hatches without incident. (And I would sleep well with either choice....but I hold the legs of the roos I butcher....so I am not a "typical" pet chicken owner. Mine are livestock and get treated better than most chickens, but are still animals, not people)

I had the egg laying flat and took the picture down. It might have had an angle but not to much. My coop was a mad house this am... Someone told me they had taped an egg like that before so that's what I did. I don't really need more mix baby's but the broody decided to sit on eggs while I was away and DH didn't collect the eggs lol. But I don't think I can just toss it. So we will see.... I tried moving her before and it didn't work. But I tried again today and after a long time puting her in a big dog crate and covering her so it was dark only then did she decide to sit back on the eggs. During some time this am my EE roo dropped another egg in her nest so I am candeling tonight.

That show ya how untech savy I am. It *never* crossed my mind you took the pic looking down....but now that you meantion it, it does make sense. Sorry I jumped to conclusions not in evidence....only exercise I got all day. (If you don't count working. LOL)

I need help from county boy ! Come get your chickens! hahahaha.. My ENTIRE cochin coop except ONE chicken is broody and they won't use the extra boxes, they wanna dogpile together. I gave them a few eggs and I have a bator going, but I hope they don't eat each other's chicks cause I have no room to segregate eight chickens and babies..

That little barred hen you gave me is broody. She has three of her own eggs and two egg from one of my favorite hens that's getting older. Her daughter just started laying but she's still living in my workshop since I can't catch her, silly thing.

Oh, and the OTHER cochin I have from county boy that is in a different coop is ALSO broody. All at once. LOL. Now the one I gave you has the bug too. dese be some wanna be mamas for sure!

Ok, I feel a bit better, lol. Because the prospect of culling 23 chicks and having to start over this spring was not too appealing.

I know that you're not supposed to lick the bowl, eat cookie dough, etc etc., because there's *always* a risk. But as the risk was relatively low, I never worried about it, and we've never gotten sick.

I think that is your kids have been licking raw dough with the eggs in it, then your birds are ok. But, if the chicks you got from Mt. healthy do have it and are in with your other birds, you would have an issue. I would separate them asap. I doubt that Mt. Healthy, I kinda laugh at that name now, has salmonella in all their pens, probably in a few. Maybe you got lucky & your birds won't have it.
