NY chicken lover!!!!

I had the egg laying flat and took the picture down. It might have had an angle but not to much. My coop was a mad house this am... Someone told me they had taped an egg like that before so that's what I did. I don't really need more mix baby's but the broody decided to sit on eggs while I was away and DH didn't collect the eggs lol. But I don't think I can just toss it. So we will see.... I tried moving her before and it didn't work. But I tried again today and after a long time puting her in a big dog crate and covering her so it was dark only then did she decide to sit back on the eggs. During some time this am my EE roo dropped another egg in her nest so I am candeling tonight.

I've seen pics online of people who have taped eggs and they hatched. I just got two dozen expensive eggs to hatch and two cracked when I was trying to fit them all in my 2 Brinsea Mini's standing upside down so the air cells reattach. I put tape on them :)

That little barred hen you gave me is broody. She has three of her own eggs and two egg from one of my favorite hens that's getting older. Her daughter just started laying but she's still living in my workshop since I can't catch her, silly thing.
Forgot to mention, just locked down the eggs you gave me plus some of my own. Yours are hard to see through but only pulled one egg that was an early quitter! :)

Quote: When I had Ameraucanas, that were Blue & black, I got recessive white chicks. They hatched out looking gray, then feathered out white. Unless you get chicks from someone who you know has been breeding that particular variety for years, yes, years, you really never know what might pop up. Varieties have been mixed, and people sell birds that "look" a certain color, but actually theirr genetic makeup is hiding other colors, especially with silkies. Now a days, people are mixing silkie varieties to make all kinds of newcolors. Its a shame.

Robins are growing so fast

Our little Duckers ...messy little babies .Any tips on how to get them to waste less food ?

Im thinking of calling the middle one tippy ..white tips on its wings .
My son has them in his aquarium
You can use something like a plastic container that cool whip comes in, cut a hole large enough in the top, so they can fit their heads in. I don't find that the ducks waste the feed, but they make a mess with water. You can use the same thing for water. I cut a hole in a old vinegar bottle, just high enough so it holds water, but big enough so they can put their heads in it & reach to botton, but cannot fit their shoulders in. Here is a pic. As they get older, I use bottles with the holes higher up.

This particular one is for my goslings. They can get their heads in so they can clean out their nares, but can't get into it with thier bodies...I tie them up so they can't tip over.

I once had a EE egg that had a crack. I took at white candle and rubbed it over the crack a few times. Stuck it back under the hen and she hatched two for tow.

Just want to put this out there.

If someone is up to ordering chicks, and they're too much, it may help to have others go in on an order with you. If of course they are willing. This is how I got ducks.

Personally I wouldn't do so for chicks from a hatchery only a private breeder of quality stock. Ducks are hard to come by in small quantities of certain breeds. Geese even more so.

Lynzii- be aware you have first dibs on hatching eggs from these ducks so if you plan to get more and want some of these Swedish be prepared. Unless things change around here.

DW saw the Doc. Things looked good. There will be treatments and we'll take it one day at a time.

I really wish I had gotten started with polish chickens a long time ago. Between the one I had gotten that passed aways the two newest frizzled ones I now have and the polish/Silkie mixes, they are most fun to watch and the most entertaining. They're still so small yet they roam the yard like they own the place. They're great flyers. And they've all been the friendliest of all my chickens. I swear the polish Silkie crossed wanted to take a ride on my shoes today while I walked around the yard. And at night? They just go into whatever coop suits them. Last night it was the Silkie coop, tonight they're roosting with the Orps! Lol I'm glad I held onto those three! No one messes with them because they're too fast for anyone to peck at.

My daughter's riding instructor's partner sells ducklings. I can't remember what kind they are, though. Some rare breed. Ancona, maybe? Anyways, he's out of Canandaigua and I don't think he imposes minimums.

Thanks Rancher! That is kind of you but I finally just brought myself to parting withy KCs and now have all runners. I plan to keep things pure around here as far as ducks go until next year at least when this Ancona duckling grows up that I got from Nutty at the picnic.

Luvmychicks - I DID get 2 from her but one passed away Sunday morning. :-( I'm wondering if maybe the weather got to it Saturday??
