So glad Hubby woke me up at 2am. He checked the bator and was worried about temp and eggs not progressing. Now at 3:45 I still can't sleep. Of course he passed right out.

we have 2 cats, indoor variety. we had a feral cat last year, but he was hit by a car. i think i've gotten probably 15-20 mice and chipmunks over the past 3 weeks, no rats since late winter, but i believe the rats have just figured out the traps. thats why i wanted to try the bucket trap, looks like a good idea
Got Mud???? I got lots of mud! Holy mud, I have mud on top of mud! The terrorist run and brat/monsters run is just horrible. I hope we get the sun they promised us for the next two days to dry it out some. Im going to have to haul lots of chipped wood in to fill the craters that they dug and to soak up some of this mud. Thats my sunday project. Have to work today. Only got 4 eggs yesterday from the terrorists. Wish I knew what was going on as this is making me mad. Only 10 eggs the day before that and 6 the day before that. I have egg customers waiting on eggs. I will have to check vents and see who is not laying. I let the brats, monsters out yesterday afternoon to freerange between rain storms. Looked out to see that 3 monsters found a way into my fenced off plum tree. Grrr. They ate every leave off it except one by the time I got out there. Soo mad! I think its a goner. I swear they spend all their time looking to get into stuff. I did notice, however, that when they are in the woods digging through the leaf litter, that you cant see them except for their yellow legs. Their coloring is so good that they blend right in and you see nothing except the flash of yellow when they are digging. I had to help Little Man and sarah back into their coop last night. They seemed a little out of it having been caught in the rainstorm. Silkie bath day on sunday as well.
Huntin fool--the bucket mouse trap works good. Dh made one last year and got quite a few.
TOB--nice pic of the sparrow. I have a phoebe under my kitchen deck on a nest with babies. I only looked once because I didnt want to disturb her. She doesnt mind when we step out onto the deck but get nervous when we are on the ground around the deck.
Off to work a double today. Go me. Gotta stop and get some feed at the feed store first on my way in. Have a good day everyone.
This morning's count is 1 brown leghorn, 2 Wellsummers hatched. Another Wellie was zipped last night but did not make progress by this morning, still wiggling and peeping but looked stuck. Pulled it out and broke some shell back to find the membrane shrinking and drying around. Took all the shell off one side and finished zipping and little baby was happy to pop it's head out. Set it back in the bator and back to actively hatching itself out.
I too am suddenly getting less eggs, 5 yesterday. 14 birds, 1 roo, 3 broodies, that leaves 10 who could be laying....50%, hmmm. But yesterday Stewie was behaving nicely, but uttering genteel clucks. I truly hope she doesn't really expect to be broody too. She is one of my originals, and close to my heart, but was a wild child. I can only imagine what an adventure broodiness would be.

Something weird is going on here....all my crows are gone! I've had crows here for years, and through the winter, but now. Not one! Now, I'm worried about hawks.
Anyone else lose their crows?
I think everyone enjoyed their first night's stay in the big coop!
Only thing I have left to do today is make some sort of tray to hang under that roost because obviously the polish are going to want to roost and the silkies aren't. I just think it's going to be tough to make something wide enough to catch everything but not too wide to where they can't get up there.
Good morning here! The rain stop! Still gloomy, but Ill take it! The girls were happy to be out and low and behold when I opened up the coop, Wanda our once stray pine dweller left me a nice large white egg!! My first egg! She finally feels at home! Can I just tell you how much she loves being around the little ones, always gentle letting them be the first outside, to eat etc. shes the best. Anyways lots to do so little time. Im off to town. I hope everyone had a quiet predator free night, I will catch up later. Have a good day!
