NY chicken lover!!!!

Yesterday morning the BO broody seemed to want to take the kids out, and the other moms and chicks were out. The other moms attacked her and the chicks. I clot in there and recovered the chicks, put everyone back in the little coop...but one black and whit chicks right knee is damaged. Very wobbly, and s/he doesn't use that leg. Couldn't figure out how to splint it...does anyone know? Doesn't cover a lot of ground, so it may not make it...

Will get some fencing to separate this bunch from the other, and allow them to see each other. It's on my list for today.

Chickens can be so mean ..I had a simaliar incident this morning ..
One hen attacked Chippie with one Baby ...Baby ZZZOOOMMed through the fence into the baby run .
I grabbed Momma & put her in there too

Heres a link that may help

Hi all! I haven't checked in in a while so I may have missed some things. Not a lot going on around here. Still being ravaged by four or five ravens so I can't let the broodies out of their coop. I'm thinking the only solution at this point is to put netting over the run so they just can't get in at all.

Also, I can't quite remember who picked up two black silkie chicks for me and brought them to the picnic - possibly LuvMyChicks? - but anyway they're not black, they're partridge! So that was a surprise. Not quite sure what I'll do with them. And I have some chicks scheduled to hatch tomorrow so that should be fun. Gonna buy the chickens a watermelon so they can celebrate the fourth with us.

I'll have to get some tomorrow. Very pretty little things, but most definitely not black!

Evening all,
So I posted a question in emergencies/health a couple of days ago - no reply yet. So I'm gonna pick your brains......this isn't life or death, just curiosity. So Henrietta, sole survivor of 'the big freeze', is now 17 weeks old. She's eating/drinking well, socializes with her adopted sisters, looks like any other 17 week old chick. However, I think she's partially sighted or near blind. She bumps into thinks sometimes and has to up close and kind of 'feel' where her roost is at night. Otherwise, she pretty much sticks with the group and doesn't venture too far. She was vaccinated against Mareks and has had no injuries/maladies to report on,nothing odd about her eyes..... Any ideas????

They could have started out black. They're silkies and evil things, they may have changed color just to spite you. They are not to be trusted.

O.M.G. That's all I have to say! We set the trap. I woke up last night at 1:30 to get a glass a water, checked the trap and he was caught!!

Woke up this morning and he was gone! Escaped! Poof! I just can't beleive it. He pushed that door open and worked so hard at it that the door bent! This thing is relentless. Guess we have to set it and wait up all night for him next time.
Oh lord.

If you get him back in the trap tip the trash can up and fill it with water and drown the bugger!!!!

I had a blind chick - lovely girl - but I free range and felt she was in danger ... I gave her to Pyxis - and she lived for years with sight in one eye and even hatched out some babies !

Pyxis found out what was wrong with the eye - but I forgot what it was .......

I guess the main thing is to determine if she is in pain or not ...

good read. I'm gonna have an 8x6 coop so i'm thinking max of 16 or so, thats 3 sqft per bird. Not optimal but not as small as the commercial coops. I'm thinking i might want to have a larger ran than my planned 10x10 though, so that they'll have more outdoor space. Just need to look at the price of materials for that.
