NY chicken lover!!!!

I had a blind chick - lovely girl - but I free range and felt she was in danger ... I gave her to Pyxis - and she lived for years with sight in one eye and even hatched out some babies !

Pyxis found out what was wrong with the eye - but I forgot what it was .......

I guess the main thing is to determine if she is in pain or not ...

She doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. I'm not sure how much she sees, distance seems okish (is that a word?), but close up not so much. I was wondering if perhaps the almost freezing to death might have affected her eyes - who knows? She's a very talkative little thing, allows me to pet her and such...she's a keeper! Thanks for the input,

Evening all,
So I posted a question in emergencies/health a couple of days ago - no reply yet. So I'm gonna pick your brains......this isn't life or death, just curiosity. So Henrietta, sole survivor of 'the big freeze', is now 17 weeks old. She's eating/drinking well, socializes with her adopted sisters, looks like any other 17 week old chick. However, I think she's partially sighted or near blind. She bumps into thinks sometimes and has to up close and kind of 'feel' where her roost is at night. Otherwise, she pretty much sticks with the group and doesn't venture too far. She was vaccinated against Mareks and has had no injuries/maladies to report on,nothing odd about her eyes..... Any ideas????

What is the "big freeze"? I don't have any idea what could be wrong. Is there a film on her eyes?

good read. I'm gonna have an 8x6 coop so i'm thinking max of 16 or so, thats 3 sqft per bird. Not optimal but not as small as the commercial coops. I'm thinking i might want to have a larger ran than my planned 10x10 though, so that they'll have more outdoor space. Just need to look at the price of materials for that.

Something I was just thinking of is footage for the next boxes. I have mine on legs so lose footage of floor space. I really need to figure my footage out better. I'm wasting floor space by having them on the floor.
My exterior nest box is okay but I don't have that in my hoop coops.
Even with my long runs, they only help if I get up at the crack of dawn and let the birds out. I'm not usually up at the crack of dawn.

She was the sole survivor of a mail consignment which arrived the first day of the big blizzard. All her sisters were frozen to death. No, there's no film over her eyes, they look just fine, that's what's puzzling. I can see nothing wrong with her, perhaps she's just myopic.

examined this afternoon and attempted to splint. I have put splints on many people, but couldn't figure out a good one. Tried quips, thanks Armourfire LAdy, no go. Tried to make tiny cardboard splint from a garment tag, also no go. Applied some bandaid, on three sides, for the swelling thing, thank you Deborah, but I don't know if it will help. She is back with mom and sibs, I think that is best. Dh said she looks like a little penguin, so that is her name.

As long as you can deal with her, I see no problem. (no pun intended) If she had to have help to eat and survive otherwise you might consider other measures.

I have Buckwheat quarantined with a swollen stomach. No idea what is wrong but she's eating and drinking and pooping so she stays. I just can't put her down. She doesn't seem to be in any distress at this point.

At some time it was suggested to use pipe cleaners.
