NY chicken lover!!!!

I wonder if your drake had something to do with it?

Tell the boy happy birthday for us.

I thought of that, but she wasn't limping until after I pulled him off Ella and locked him up. I have no idea...maybe he got her before that but it didn't bother her until later in the day.

Happy 4th All !

So - here is my ' I am HOT and I hate summer, I am tired of filling multiple food and water bowls ' method of chick raising .....

Had enough - kicked the youngest bunch out with the full flock this morning - put down lots of extra feed so there is NO fussing over limited feed for today .... They have been in a coop in the middle of the run for 2 weeks now - so they see the whole flock each day and have the routine, noises and smells down. Hope the keets don't run away - but I can't stand it anymore - I get EATEN UP each time I step outside ... and I cringe at soaking my skin with DEET for 10 minutes of chores .... so now it will be cut down to 5 min of chores in the morning .... then the afternoon chores the bugs are usually not active .....

I attract the biting bugs like a super magnate .... so it is Deet or itch for hours and risk all the junk they can inject into me.

Too bad I have to be civilized - I could try coating myself in mud ... I hear that worked back in the olden days.

That's one of the other reasons we separated the boys, Bonnie has been limping a little lately. She may be Clyde's mate but Ed has taken an extra liking to her.

Morning all. Still raining and i swear my chickens are growing webbed feet. They are not happy about all this rain and neither am I. Just miserable out. My poor silkie chicks downstairs want out of their box. I hope this clears out soon so they can go out in their playpen. Working mad hours today and tommorrow.

Gramma--I hope your chick gets better.

Rancher--its not people like you who drive me crazy. Its the ones who consistantly do this all the time. I can understand people forgetting occasionally as I do myself but there are people out there who come by every month demanding the same thing because they are too lazy to take care of their own health care.

Ke5shde--good luck with your hatching!

Lynzi--coons are strong and determined. You catch it again, kill it right away. Dont wait.

Time to get ready for work. Have a good day everyone.
We get our RX at the hospital where DW works so I usually call them in and never expect them immediately. Wegmans does a good job too. There was a time it was a nightmare cuz our insurance insisted they had to be order by mail! I tried marking them on a calender since I take the same things all the time.
I think it might be good to have an automatic call when things are about to expire. Kinda like the docs reminder of appts.

Morning,
Family is here so I haven't had much time to get on here. No traces of the coon last night. We set up the camera on our side porch in full view of the garbage cans and DH put the monitor in our bedroom with the volume up so we would hear anything right away-needless to say I got no sleep. :-/ He never came around. We'll set it again tonight.

Something's wrong with my Stella. My dad called me outside yesterday before the rain came to tell me she was limping. I went outside and she was limping so much it looked like she had just 1 leg. So I scooped her up and put her inside her coop since I was locking up anyway. Hopefully the rest over night helped her. I didn't see anything-cuts, wounds, blood etc.

Had to lock my drake up yesterday. He's been going after the chickens and trying to mate with them. I don't get it. He had poor Ella, my big blue Orp hen pinned down in the bushes yesterday. Tossed him right back in the duck house.

Well I better go let everyone out. Have a great Independence Day everyone! My oldest turns 8 today!! Yikes!
When I had the two blk orp roos I had to lock up my young pullets cuz they would try to mate with them and I had to put two down cuz they got hurt so bad. The roos are gone now. My Del roos are not so aggressive.

It's funny rancher, I thought about making a similar post. And the phone # given is definitely not a US number.
I love hanging out with you guys!

I tried a reverse look up but got nothing. I've reported the post. I thought perhaps it's Cheshire, England but the person who answered said they didn't know a Rancher Hicks so I know it's wasn't legit.

Mama Orp seems to be keeping penguin warm this morning and entertaining the other two by letting them use her for a jungle gym. She gave me some pecks because she is fierce, and since I have taken Penguin twice, she is not going to give me another chance. She should remember that I have always returned her.

In the night we had some kind of visitor. I woke to my dog barking and something nearby making a sound close to a bark, but kind of snarly too, def. not a dog or coyote, that continued as he left through the woods. NEVER heard that before. I hope it was from the electric fence. Didn't see any signs of digging or other damage.

What could that be?
