NY chicken lover!!!!

We get our RX at the hospital where DW works so I usually call them in and never expect them immediately. Wegmans does a good job too. There was a time it was a nightmare cuz our insurance insisted they had to be order by mail! I tried marking them on a calender since I take the same things all the time.
I think it might be good to have an automatic call when things are about to expire. Kinda like the docs reminder of appts.
We have gotten our scripts through Rite Aid for years and they have automatic fill and send me a text and email each month letting us know it is filled and when we run out of refills they automatically fax the doctor for a new script I do nothing even if we don't have it set for Auto refill they text and email me when it is due for a refill. Maybe the hospital has this too.

Mama Orp seems to be keeping penguin warm this morning and entertaining the other two by letting them use her for a jungle gym. She gave me some pecks because she is fierce, and since I have taken Penguin twice, she is not going to give me another chance. She should remember that I have always returned her.

In the night we had some kind of visitor. I woke to my dog barking and something nearby making a sound close to a bark, but kind of snarly too, def. not a dog or coyote, that continued as he left through the woods. NEVER heard that before. I hope it was from the electric fence. Didn't see any signs of digging or other damage.

What could that be?
I am glad it walked away be careful there has been numerous spottings of black bears lately

Happy Independence Day everyone! We will be spending a quiet day doing stuff around here DH is still on vacation so trying to get as much done around here as possible. Right now we are putting up fence for the goats and I am getting some sheep too so that is why we are expanding the fence.

Got a few more eggs from production birds so am hoping the big boost in Protein will make them start laying again I can't keep up with my customers. DH wanted Bacon and eggs and I unfortunately didn't have any eggs for him. Not complaining about the sales it is nice helps pay for the feed.

Gardens are doing great we planted a lot of stuff that I will be freezing not only for us but for the animals to get through out the winter. Plus will be doing a lot of canning for us. In a few weeks it will be blueberry picking time DH and boys will be going with me this time to help pick as blueberries take much longer to pick than strawberries.

Ok time to do Laundry which of course is never ending in this house

Happy 4th All !

So - here is my ' I am HOT and I hate summer, I am tired of filling multiple food and water bowls ' method of chick raising .....

Had enough - kicked the youngest bunch out with the full flock this morning - put down lots of extra feed so there is NO fussing over limited feed for today .... They have been in a coop in the middle of the run for 2 weeks now - so they see the whole flock each day and have the routine, noises and smells down. Hope the keets don't run away - but I can't stand it anymore - I get EATEN UP each time I step outside ... and I cringe at soaking my skin with DEET for 10 minutes of chores .... so now it will be cut down to 5 min of chores in the morning .... then the afternoon chores the bugs are usually not active .....

I attract the biting bugs like a super magnate .... so it is Deet or itch for hours and risk all the junk they can inject into me.

Too bad I have to be civilized - I could try coating myself in mud ... I hear that worked back in the olden days.
Oh I hear you! We trying to watch the storm Wed. night on the porch even with bug candles burning couldn't stand it. Used the dogs Zero-Bite it's chemical free peppermint oil and clove worked great. Didn't react to it which I do with Skin So Soft.

Regarding refills all the Doc. (St. Mary's, Basssette Offices) do the electronic refills nice when your doing med. order for twelve people.
Happy 4 of July

been lucky so far, not much for bugs here. No puddles, swamps or ponds close by so no place for the nasty things to breed. Its actually been a really nice summer, not much heat, not alot of rain and few bugs.

We live on a creek and have woods on 3 sides of us. If the deer flies don't get you during the day, the mosquitoes will get you at night. Deet, lots of deet, the highest percentage we can get. I have some 100% stuff in the garage that works most of the time :-/

Happy 4th everyone! Today's temps are just nearly perfect. We also have bugs so badly that we can't sit out, woods on 3 sides, creek along the back but wouldn't have it any other way (unless it was atop a mountain) I finally bought a box trap to try to catch some of the varmints that live near me and last night

I CAUGHT A RACCOON. YAHOO!!!! I had to wake DH up to ping him in the head so I could let the chickens out. I used marshmallows. I actually felt a little bad this morning but 1 down, probably a doz more. lol

Glad you caught it !!!!

Congrats on catching that raccoon! Chris, sorry to see your tree leaning on your barn!

Today the chick looks stronger, but momma is keeping her quiet. Also, no sign of the bandaid. Apparently the parent has declined medical intervention. She did seem to flex the toes, just a touch, so I was encouraged. Put up the fence so they can go out when Momma wants. Sometimes she just wants to stretch her legs.

glad it didnt do any damage

Luckily there's no damage to the barn.
The Chicken looks a little Frazzled !

Do you eat bananas ? some say that draws bugs ...Some say high blood sugar ...I do both ...So they love me too.
Try a herbal spray like mint or oregano ( could be tea ) I rub spearmint on my face & stick it in my hat ..At least it keeps them off my face .

It lists potassium - Bananas -
