In light of the recent storm my perspective has changed, This morning I was sad about some eggs that didn't hatch. This afternoon I am grateful for life, my home and family and my heartfelt prayers go out to all affected by the recent storm. I pray you are all safe.

I am so grateful for the friends I have met here on BYC and I am so thankful for the knowledge you all share every day!

pretty sure if you live in one state and work in another you end up paying income tax in both states. When I lived in CT a guy i worked with was living in NY and paid alot more in taxes than the rest of us.
So far the post office hasn't changed the location of my birds, the local guy was on the phone trying to find out what was going on for me this morning. Mypetchicken was all like it was normal, and when I explained that my birds who were supposed to arrive in 24 hours were not guaranteed to be there in 72 told me to make sure I gave them something to drink when I got them. I wanted to say no ****, I figured I'd deny them water longer for kicks. I'm pretty upset, and even if all my birds arrive fine I'll never do business with them or meyer again because meyers the ones who shipped them.

Yup! I did that for the first 6 years we lived in NY. I was working from home for a company in CT - even though they are located all over the country. I think the last few years however they never pulled tax out for CT which I found weird. I never changed anything.

Its been so very busy around here. Dh started classes at NTTS on Monday, in 5 short weeks he will have his CDL. As always chicks are hatching, hens are laying and roosters are crowing! I'm glad to hear everyone is safe after the storms. Not much happened here. TTFN!

The mom and baby were family to a friend of mine. One of the other 2 dead was also from that family - either an aunt or the babies grandma. My friend is in shock so it was hard to understand him.
I always cry and pray for the people in situations like this - this one just hit a lot closer than normal

Im so sorry..:(

Evening all,
Well it's official, DH signed his offer letter today and we are moving to MA. Well, actually I'm finding a lot of houses on the very top east corner of CT that are in our price range and have the land we want. It will be a hour commute for him but he's ok with that. He interviewed for a job in Binghamton up here and that would have been an hour. So we may end up living back in CT. I hope I can still come here to the NY thread and chat with you all even though I won't be a "NY'er". ;)  I'm upset, stressed, and a little excited all at the same time. I just hope we can find something that will allow me to have my cheeps back with me. If not, I'll be looking to rent short term and buy within the next year so that I CAN have them back. ke5hde and his wife have been so kind as to take care of them for me until I can come back to get them. That was a huge relief for me because I really am not ready to give them up. It's also nice knowing that someone who already knows about chickens will taking care of them.
these next few weeks are going to get busy very quickly. I probably won't be on much. I'm still waiting for 4 more eggs to hatch! Geez, hope I don't forget about them! Hope everyone is well!!!

Congrats on the job and good luck with your move!

Congratulations! Moving is a challenge but your on a new adventure! Good Luck!

Congrats to your husband, Lynzi. He sure found his place quickly! It sounds like you will have new opportunities too if you buy a place. Living in CT may not be a bad idea, Taxachusetts has many sneaky little taxes, we were shocked to get an annual tax on our car! In the mid 70s it was $62 per 1000$ you car was worth. It makes you want to drive a real clunker . Of course, what matters is to find the home that will suit all of you, schools, commute, land, town, access to family....this thread will be here just as it always has, and there will be the MA thread, and you will be closer to the Albany area peeps...

When you can, let us know which restaurant he works for so if we want a great meal we can support him!

We will want to hear your adventures.

Lynzi - congrats ! and yes, be careful when finding a place - even if your husband has to commute and stay in a hotel for a few weeks - because you DO pay extra taxes in multiple states and it can crush you! We did that when we first moved - and my they get you all ways. Happens that Glasshen is right - taxachusetts got us good and for a one month issue - we are paying payments to get that horrid state off our backs.

Still haven't heard from Rancher - hope he is alright.

My youngest batch - 1/2 put themselves to bed in the coop for the first time !!! Whooot I'm having to put them all in at night once they pile on the ground - which is ok - but the keets wake up fast and stir up the peeps - so it is not as easy as an all peep batch ... last night the keets must have been fully disgusted at being manhandled and went in ... followed by some of the peeps!

This means they all will soon be there & all I have to do is shut the door soon. AH. Sweet
