Question; How many chickens can fit in a 3x2 garden?
Answer: 8 hens and 1 rooster!

I stripped my plants of tomatoes and pulled everything out of my raised bed. Cleaned out both silkie coops and put the stuff on top of the raised bed then released the beasts. To say that they were thrilled to finally have access to all those tasty green plants and the garden is an understatement. You would never even know I put anything on top as they have it all turned over looking for any tidbit of tastyness they could find. I dont have to do a thing to it. Love free tillers! They really liked the broccoli plants and are working on the tomato plants. Just got a notice of frost warning tonight so im glad I did this today. I will put my green tomatoes in a paper bag and see how they ripen. They look good.

My silkies are a bit confused with all the new pine needles in their run. They will be even more so when they see the nice new shavings in their coops. Anything new is cause for panic and alarm. I will probably have to force them inside tonight to show them its all harmless. Sissys. Moving a couple of the little girls over to legolas coop tonight too.

Dh has been busy putting in a new sink in the bathroom and changing the oil on the snowblower. It will be nice to have one to do the work for a change. Will still have to shovel some but not as much.

Laperian, they both stopped laying eggs and are now in sitting mode. The Silkie wasn't doing a good enough job so the Frizzle decided to help her out.

The Silkie was sitting on the eggs but the eggs weren't too warm, but now the Frizzle has them toasty. I gave her 3 eggs but who knows if anything will hatch. No eggs for several days now. They don't get external light, although they are right off of the kitchen. I try to keep the lights off at night so the rooster doesn't wake the neighbors. Thank you so much for the reply. I'll check to see if she's missing feathers. She has her wings spread out.

I doubt they can hear him ...My roos are out side ..neighbors only hear them when they are outside too

I don't know, but someone told me that a pig will eat a chicken if they get a chance. Once they taste blood, its all over.

Pigs will eat your poultry alive. A duck would be a tasty snack. Years ago I had a turkey go over the side of the pen (I assume) and after searching all over for it found a pair of feet in the pigpen. It must have been a horrible death .

This spring - I ordered some speckled sussex pullets with Baking in the Rain and Pyxis ... then I got on a blue egg kick and sold then to a local family who already had chickens ... told them I would take any back that had roosters .... but said I paid for pullets, but hatcherys often mix in roos ....

Last night I have two full grown roos - confused and fighting in my Full Flock - and bedding down on my truck and roof !!! I spent an hour getting them and then getting them in with my bachelor pen this morning ....

What are the chances this guy just dropped them off before sunset and ran ? And WTH !???? WHY ??? I said I'd take them back. Is he ticked he got 2 roos out of 7 "pullets" ? So aren't we all.

Do you realize I said I would take any rooster back ?
Do you realize I paid for pullets from the hatchery - so the hatchery are the ones who sent me the chicks?
Do you realize that chickens need to be integrated?
Do you realize anything about bio-containment?
Have you no basic, neighborly guts to reach out and ask me to take them back?
I am so disappointed that humans act this way. How can you have pride in yourself when you didn't even try to discuss this me? I would have been glad to help you - and I have a pen set up just for roosters ... Now I am debating calling the police because of the risk you just posed to the animals and to my family.
Would you do it differently now ? You have children ... would you want your children treated like you just treated me? THAT is really the big question.
I will be talking to many people about this and deciding what I will do - can you tell me why no simple communication? Sherwood is now a name I am suspicious of (not just Jamie and Eric) - I hope you reach out and make amends for your family honor.

not sure i would send that to them ..you are on the high road ..let them stew in their own garbage ..i would let them no they put your flock in danger and your kids as well but some folks just dont get it .and no matter how many times you beat it into their heads they just have that blank staire in their eyes that says they dont get it ..yes people are screwed up and some will always be that way ..


aww hell after going back and rereading your post of what happen ..yeah go ahead and send it ..but maybe add a few more lines and dont forget to say what you really want to say ..i'd be PO as well..
