NY chicken lover!!!!

WNY EGGER - well - thanks for the input!!! I want more before I send a negative letter - but hell - just to toss off two live animals and drive away ????

I was HERE all day yesterday - **** - not only was I super nice and talking about chicken keeping to them - but I had them look at all of the pullets and no pressure to buy them ... they could have looked and walked away - they were just off a heat lamp this spring ....

Help me here - because I am so tired of trying to be a nice person and getting nothing - not even common courtesy back in life. I want to call the cops on them - but this is such a little thing ... I won't.

Think about what they could do if they were mad at you...I would just say you wished they had let you know before bringing them over, and let it go. If that is the way they are, then I wouldn't want to get on their bad side. Just don't have anything to do with them again.

I agree, I would definitely send them a letter but I wouldn't get too mean in it (be the bigger person). Just mention that you wish they would have let you know, you can also explain the implications of what they did (bio security, fighting etc.). Just leave it civil and don't interact with them again..

Metella - Send them a letter, but like other's are stating - remain calm in it. These people are obviously jerks and will get nothing but enjoyment over how angry and outraged they've made you. Where as if you keep your cool and just simply put what it is you want to say...they'll be upset that they didn't do a good enough job in getting a rise out of you. Trust me, I'd be just as upset as you and probably would have lost it by now and already would have broke down and called the cops, but it's not going to make you anything but MORE angry when you see all that lashing out at them doesn't bother them and they end up just laughing it off. I wouldn't communicate to them from this point forward. It's almost like you have to look at them and laugh at how childish they are to do something like that.

Marquisella and WNY EGGER:

how about this instead ? (and thanks for your help - I am so sick of people acting like this...)

I wish you would have let me know before bringing those roosters, I was home and could have put them in a proper place - using decent and humane methods of introducing them into their new pen ....
I did tell you I would take any roosters back if you didn't want them, and I didn't lie.
Just think of a world in which people treat your children like you have just shown ... drop and run is cowardly and I really want good Vermont neighbors. I am disappointed that you acted like this and you could easily have turned this into a pleasant thing.
Also - all those birds came from a hatchery - where I paid extra to get all hens ... so the mistake was not one I made but by people who charged me more for hens ... so we could have complained about them together ...
I seriously and honestly would love to know why you just tossed them off and ran ? I mean it gently and nicely - I am at a loss as I felt you were decent people, a cool family --- what could I have done to make it easier for you to have emailed or knocked ? I was here all day yesterday - perhaps out back, but home .... I truly want to learn from this and know .... we are strangers, but in Vermont - close enough to be neighbors, so I am really surprised by this. Help me understand ... please ....

Ok its been AGES AND AGES since I had time to post =(

We took the DD and the DS to the Rochester Poultry Association Show yesterday. Its an awesome experience if you've never been. The show is hosted as part of the Genesee Country Village Museum heritage Fair and is right on the museum grounds. You get 1 pass for the exhibitor and 1 guest pass. We took 4 birds ($3 entry fee per bird) Each kiddo entered 2 birds and we got 4 passes to the museum (like buy 1 get 3 free)!

ANYWAYS.....

DS got a 1 out of 5 on his black wyandotte bantam roo. He didn't get BB or BV though b/c there were white roos there that were better. He was happy.

DS and DD each took 1 white wyandotte bantam hen. I figured these would not do well - and they ranked 4 and 5 out of 10 hens. BUT --- I found out that they are actually very high quality birds. Rick Hare (an amazing apa judge if you dont know the name) asked me about them. Both of the parents of the whites were BLACK. getting white from black is very rare and if i understood him right means their color will hold true. Anyways he advised me to get my hands on a top line white bantam roo because the girls were excellent stock - just young.

DD took her baby --- her Black Sumatra Cock. Blackberry came home with the Res. Grand Champion AOSB award --- 2nd best in class out of like 50. First place went to the gentleman who sold her the first Sumatra's she got. DD was flying HIGH yesterday.

We also came home with a new trio of white rocks - hopefully better fertility rates and laying rates next year and A pair of BLUE sumatras to mix with the blacks we already have (totally different parentage) - and ordered a few more Black Sumatra's to increase the flock.

I'm slowly working through the old posts -- hope you all are doing well!

That's awesome! Good for her! Love the part you found out about your current birds too. I love finding out neat things like that in an animals genetics.

I drove DH crazy last night --- trying to figure out what was so special about those 2 hens. I figured they'd get DQ'd b/c they had speckling on them. Poor birds each had about 2 doz feathers plucked trying to get rid of it.....

Went back to the chickens this morning to grab some measurements for my FIL, he's going to help me make a run for them. One that will be built in "frames" so I can take it down and put it up easily. I really hate how dirty my birds are looking over there. I refuse to bath them again. And the nest boxes are a mess because everyone sleeps in them at night!
rant.gif
I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just remove the slots that make up the nest boxes and buy/build one of those wooden ones from TS and screw it to the wall and if the hens want to lay they can jump up a couple of inches and lay their eggs in there rather than where everyone is sleeping at night. I'm sure it wont get AS dirty in there once I make some breeding pens and everyone is separated out. I just couldn't believe how gross they looked today. I don't know what to do

This spring - I ordered some speckled sussex pullets with Baking in the Rain and Pyxis ... then I got on a blue egg kick and sold then to a local family who already had chickens ... told them I would take any back that had roosters .... but said I paid for pullets, but hatcherys often mix in roos ....

Last night I have two full grown roos - confused and fighting in my Full Flock - and bedding down on my truck and roof !!! I spent an hour getting them and then getting them in with my bachelor pen this morning ....

What are the chances this guy just dropped them off before sunset and ran ? And WTH !???? WHY ??? I said I'd take them back. Is he ticked he got 2 roos out of 7 "pullets" ? So aren't we all.

I HATE PEOPLE
I would not email them until you know that it was them
Can you identify the Roosters for sure ? ? how far away is the family from you ?

As it could have been someone else ...some other idiot that had that cute chick disease ...
"Who knew that a cute chick turned into a Rooster ? I thought it would be a chicken " Like roosters arent chickens LOL

A friend of mine had a Rooster show up at her house ....had no idea how it got there ...she doesnt even have a farm but she lives out in the country

I would probably visit them ...see how they are doing ..count chicken heads or at least do a drive by
Or email them ..how are their chickens doing ? any problems ? act innocent ...there is a 50 /50 chance it was not them
