NY chicken lover!!!!

Seriously, if you need help sometime, I'm sure my husband would help. We both teach at APHS and could help you after school some day. He is EXTREMELY gifted at catching stuff--no joke! And me? I could take the funny video footage

Same here, I am available afternoon's and evenings as well if you need help.
I have a net and a couple of large dog crates if you think that would help as well.

Wow, thank you both so much!

I have a new update to the situation.

Twice now, I have seen the chickens run over to my yard from one particular neighbor's yard. I hadn't seen any chicken coops in their yard but I figured I should ask. As I was walking over to their house, the lady came outside and said "Are you looking for your chickens?" I was like, "They aren't MY chickens! I was coming to ask if they were yours!" So, they weren't hers but she gave me a lead on which neighbor's they might be. It was about 5 house away and on another street.

I drove over to THAT house (which is way off the street) and, lo and behold, there are tons of speckled sussex running around (no fencing or anything). The guy was outside and I told him his chickens were at my house. He didn't seem that concerned or interested, I think the chickens are his wife's doing. Anyway, he said he figured they were either dead or would come back eventually; but I got the feeling that he didn't really notice they were gone. I told him that I won't feed them tomorrow and he said he would try to come catch them in the afternoon or evening. But he didn't sound too invested.

So, if he doesn't come by the end of the week, I'm still going to have my friend with the farm take them. Because I have four chickens in my yard and they have been here for two weeks now! My yard is completely torn up and and I'm stressing over their welfare. I feel like if they had a proper home with food and stuff, they wouldn't be living here. Or do they get lost once they are away from home? But why would they leave "home" if they had enough food and felt safe? Anyway, they'll have a home one way or another. I'm just afraid now that they know I'm a sucker and will feed them, that they will come back even if he takes them home!

Hi I am not sure if this is the closest thread to me but i live about an hour north of watertown in gouverneur area. I have a farm where we run about 100 chickens, 100 quail, 30 geese, 30 ducks, and a whole bunch of others things, goats, horses, pigs, sheep, etc...

It certainly sounds like he couldn't care less, so they probably aren't well tended or cared for. So.....they opted for your place 'cos you're a nice person

. I think the idea of taking them somewhere that they can be appropriately cared for is great - animals are like children - if you don't want to care for them, don't have them!! It makes me so mad that people just don't give a d... for the welfare of their livestock...

ok, rant over, hope you are able to catch them as planned.

sounds like you have quite the farm going there........

We have quite a couple kinds including the australorp, sussex, japanese bantam, delaware, new hampshire, pheonix, dominique, cochins(full and banty size) and Orphingtons. There are other types to they just are not coming to mind at the moment.

Wow!! That is quite the update! I'm glad you found where they're coming from, but it stinks to be in that situation! People like that give Backyard Chicken owners a bad reputation!!! I'm telling ya, this PoultryNet electric fencing is the best thing since sliced bread for us suburban folk with an acre or two...gives almost all the benefits of free range without the huge mess, threat to the chickens, and annoyance to neighbors! Just wish it had been a smidge cheaper :(

Quote: Chickens Love seed -ESP bird seed ..It s like Ice cream to them ..dont put that out for a while
The 1st one probably just wandered & found the bird seed ..and stayed .
our neighbor had bird seed out ..they were drawn to it ...when I got bird seed it kept them home some ..
They can also follow a trail ..Ive had mine follow a place I have went ..I dont think they saw me go there .
More than likely those four are friends & followed each others ...trail .
chickens will wander a bit if allowed to ...mine are expected to stay in my yard ...however once in a while I have to herd them back ...
I do this : tell them they are bad girls ( I have mostly Hens) And Clap my hands tell them to get home ..
I have been known to pick up a leaf rake to move them faster if they are not going fast enough for me ...
they know I mean business & will keep ahead of me back to where they are supposed to be
