calf hutch coop ? Half ?
Calf Hutch!
Start with a calf hutch mounted on landscape ties. I used the whole 8 foot length and put a step on the extra length. The calf hutch was 7x4 feet. The inside is filled with crusher mix (small crushed stone and stone dust) for good drainage and to help anchor it in place.
The back window has a built in sliding vent or can be swung open all the way. The side window swings up and locks in. Both have hardware cloth fastened by bolting wood on the inside to add stability.
The roof vent was missing, so I attached wood over a strip of hardware cloth and then mounted a peice of plastic roofing over it all. Hoping it provides good venting in the winter to keep the coop dry. If it is too much I will stuff a feedbag in the north/west end. The other board is to support a hook eye on the inside for the hanging feeder.
Calf hutches do not have a door so I bolted on a frame and built a door. A bungee cord holds it open so the wind doesn't slam it shut on anyone or prevent them from going in to eat. The extra hutch in the background makes great storage for shavings and straw until I use it next year.
A simple gate and stone steps complete the grow out pen. A metal post and a loop of wire holds the gate open for now until next year when I can finish a real fence. I feel like I live in a sea of mud.

And nothing happens without an audience. . . . .
