More did you say more~...we all have chicks... and if I didn't welcome you! Welcome and all!..so you can have lots of chickens...

Thanks! I love this place - I'm surrounded by folks who will encourage me in my belief that just a couple more chickens wouldn't hurt.

Luckily, I'm surrounded by chicken-liking folks. The people behind us got six the same week my girls came in. The guy on one side of us tried to raise free-range birds a couple of years ago, but said that it didn't work out all that well, as "they came by land, they came by swamp, and they came by air to pick them off." My neighbors on the other side have three kids who are absolutely in love with the chicks, and come over to visit them all the time. We're also in an agriculture-friendly area, to the point that the town laws actually encourage agricultural activities of all types "to preserve the rural character of the area." The sole restriction is that animals must be kept in accordance with good husbandry practices, which anyone worth their salt does anyway. All this obviously translates into MORE CHICKENS!

....and turkey poults..... JK

I definitely would LOVE to borrow one of your hubbies should we ever build another coop. My DH does a great job, but builders we are not. Our next project (we have enough coops!!) is a gazebo! We did manage to put in nice windows and electricity to the coops but our coops are certainly not as lovely as some of the great ones I see.. Someday, maybe.

Tell me about it!! I need to do my countertops and cabinets and I really need a new roof and and and...

I'm at work - hope my chickies make it through the super heat today.

Let them all out so they can hide in the woods, set up e-lyte laced water with frozen bottles and a few fans. I'm like the only person I know who prefers the cold!

Featherz--you are not the only one who prefers the cold! This heat and humidity are killing me. I would rather have it around 30. Working a double today so loaded up all the cheeps with eletrolyte water and a thorough soaking of the run. DD is under instructions as she is on chicken watch today.

So far the silkie babies seem to be handling the heat okay. I have them under the pines where it is shady all day. The ones in the brooder box are having unauthorized parties and making a mess. Time to start on their coop!!!

Cydney--what are you giving away? Not that I need more chickens. DH would kill me if I brought any more home.

Hope everyone gets through this heat wave without any losses. 95 today in the Hudson Valley.
