NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi I'm near endicott. Planning on trying to breed in the spring mostly for feeding my family but fully aware there may be more chicks than I can handle so if anyone is interested. I have black sex link females but am unsure of my rooster's breed.

Can you post a picture of him ? To post a pic click the rectangle that has a moon & Trees ? landscape ...in it ...them you can up load from your computer

The parents.

The chick's aren't as easy to get pics of yet. As expected from blue to blue, I got every shade of blue. Some will be too light to keep and some will be entirely too dark to keep.
Are both parents mottled or is it the lighting ?? I would be very interested in looking at the chicks you are not going to keep. If that's a possibility please pm me.

This works like a charm for ticks !! on dogs, cats & people. I've used them for YEARS ! The website says Gander Mountain carries them. I get mine at dog shows.
The website is www.tickkey.com Hope this helps.
It was a choice between these & the twister ..( the twister had a video ..so I chose that one )
Quote: Hopefully I wont need it ...I think my cat is going across the road where the chickens arent allowed to go ...

Yes, these are blue mottled, my actual show birds. I'll have a better idea of who leaves and who stays around Jan/Feb. We made the decision this year to not sell chicks or eggs just to be sure we only sell quality birds, bred to the SOP.

QhA - I got a poorly looking hen today also. Just one, everyone else is fat and happy. It is one of my 2 year old red hens. Walking around fluffed up, some nasty green liquid poo came out. Did see her pick at food though. Hubby wonders if she laid the monster egg. I know production birds won't last long, so wouldn't be surprised if she ends up passing. Reason I wanted to cull the oldest hens. Still have 8 doz eggs in the fridge too.

Well I saw something good tonight when closing up. A RABBIT! I have not seen a rabbit in a very long time.

I also saw some Turkeys the other morning.

While I have a garden, rabbits are a good sign. No foxes. Plus rabbits are cute.

Of course it means no more Peanut Butter Surprise sandwiches.

FYI, I do not use poisons. I did at one time use some Rat poison for squirrels but it is Cumadon. They eat it and bleed to death. Not a good way to go in my opinion. I don't condemn those who use it. I prefer snap traps that are instant and quick. Though they don't always work.

I have a 3 hoop coop and the skeleton of a new coop near it with roof on ....

Great Horned Owl ... LOVELY bird .... eyeing my chickies ... I have gone out 5 times to shoo it away - it is getting bolder each time. Last time I took a bright flashlight and crept up on it slowly - it just stared into the big spotlight ... when I got to the door of the hoop coop - I let out a "booga booga" while whipping the tarp around and it flew off ! ha ha ha ha that was great.

I don't want to shoot it - but it killed 2 roos last night ... it was trapped in their fencing and I let it out this morning. so it better not think this is a cafeteria .... it is getting bolder with the humans now ... so I hope that booga booga tarp thing worked.

a really lovely thing - and so awesome that it can fly away from so fast and make no noise.

Wish I knew how to take pictures of it ... sounds like it is back from the restless sounds on my baby monitor ...

Whoooooo knows what to do ?

ha ha ha ha I recommend everyone sneak up on a predator and Booga Booga the begesus out of it .... made my night.

Lol, silly owl. I take it that it got your meat roosters and not your breeding main flock roosters? Is it trying to get into the hoop coop? Sounds like he's hungry, and this time of year that doesn't surprise me. Although now that he's learned there's food to be had, he'll probably stick around and try for it.
