NY chicken lover!!!!

We don't own the house we are in. We were going to build at the farm, but new construction is very expensive and it takes a long time. We decided to look for someplace a little more stable and DH found a lovely home in New Hartford. It is very nice, I've been crying continually for about 2 weeks.

DH says everything will be ok, that we'll adjust, and we need to find a good loving home for our tiny flock. I could give up a dog in a heartbeat, but I am so attached to these birds. I love them so much. The computer screen is blurry I'm crying so much. At this point I have to do what is best for our little babies. I have been with them so much since they hatched. Did physical therapy on little Fredo when his legs didn't work, put them in warm towels and watched TV with them, Fredo loves Dragnet, and it's been the most amazing journey. Sorry to ramble, it's kind of a shock. DH has a friend with some chickens but they are full size and these are little bantam babies. According to the town, anyone caught with chickens gets a fine AND jail time. Any ideas? thoughts?

I've got bantams with my regular chickens. I know Frenchy's kids cuz their smaller.

Vote!
Ain't it something, NYC has chickens and you can't. Do you get fliers in the mail when they notify residents when sex offenders move into your town?
Perfectly fine for you to have a child molesting sexual predator for your neighbor, but chickens? NO way! Fines and jail time for that!
(shoot, talking politics again, forgot some of you don't like talking politics)

Well I don't know when civic duty became dirty politics

If the SANE people would get out there and be part of the local government ... then Why Do may be keeping her feathered babies. They would go in shock if they are put outside .... these are the most spoilt birds I have ever heard of -but it is working for all involved and it is a shame to have to break up the family.

Hi folks, I have some bad news. We are moving to an area where we are prohibited from having chickens.
I dont think your chickens apply to this rule ...They dont allow backyard chickens ..which yours are not . yours are pets ..only .inside chickens .
I believe what pets you have inside your house is your business ...Do they not allow inside pets ? yours are like big parrots

Gramma - it doesn't matter where you keep them, in places that they are illegal, they are illegal no matter what. A person I know tried to keep ducks and chickens in his house because they weren't legal. The police where called on him by someone who heard the duck quacking, and he had to get rid of them. Even though he's little I'm sure Fredo crows loud enough for the neighbors to hear.

Maybe she can find a place nearby to keep them like Linzi did..

why do birds Have you tried boarding them somewhere close to the new house ?

cant you build a place for them were you are building the farm ..i mean it maybe a little extra work going there each day to tend to them but atleast you would still have them..and you would have to tend to them anyways ..you just have to drive there to do it ..the farm your building, does it have any buildings on the property you could house them in till you get settled in ..or could you have one built to house them in..??

i no the towns laws here are pretty tough..my wife was almost arrested for not getting the dog lic..the cop came to the door and everything ..

You could even go every other day ..... after all, you have a barn there already ? right ? So put the coop in that and they are safe from weather ... then give plenty of food and water in different pans and such - and you should be able to hold them over to allow you to go out just every other day .... you know they get along - so there is no monitoring needed to make sure they don't pick on each other.

Keep us posted - we are all animal lovers and I know most of us have had to make a decision like this in our lives - and it is always sad.

Good Luck.
