NY chicken lover!!!!

Our local feed mill mcdowell walker, while they make their own feed they also carry organic from cold springs i think it is, out of sharon springs ny. $28 for 50lbs layer mash, i dont know what cold springs charges but im sure there is a mark up. I checked out their website certified organic non gmo, feed for every kind of animal and they will custom make feeds. I just buy mcdowell walkers brand, much cheaper, if i could aford it i would switch. There used to be a blue seal here also, $10, 50lbs layer pellets picked up right at the mill, but they went out, not enough farmers anymore.

I get our Blue Seal organic pellets thru CountryMax for $27 for 50lb. I used to have a friend get my feed when he passed thru PennYann Lakeview Organic grains it was a little cheaper for mash but lots more waste he doesn't go thru there much anymore though..

Where would you buy feed (other than TSC) near Albany, NY? It's $16 for a 50lb bag of Dumor, but I would be willing to up my budget a little to go all-natural or organic. At TSC, the organic is literally double the price of Dumor, which is cost-prohibitive for me at this point.

Well, I want to post an update and thank you (again):

After posting on here, I put an ad up on my two closest CL sites for Allie, looking for someone to take him in. Last night someone replied and today we made some plans for Friday or Saturday depending on the weather here. Seems very nice and genuinely excited to add a rooster to their flock. I am so relieved! In the meantime we are still keeping him in the basement overnight to prevent him from crowing outside before 7AM. (What a wacky ordinance, right?) Thank you so much for suggesting that Gramma Chick! I had read it and knew it, but in my stress over the whole situation, my brain kinda went empty!

So, looking good for him now. Relieved and sad for me. Allie has been our collective fave from day 1! I just hope he makes the same impression on his new family and has a good life.

Great question. I am somewhat north of Albany (about 40 min or so) and am looking for info on feed also. Here's what I have come up with:

Haven't tried it, but there is an ad for "Chicken Feed- GMO/Pesticide Free and Locally Grown", $25 for 50#s, on CL Albany. Its listed in Saratoga/Wilton.

I have been buying Nature's Best when I can get it--sometimes online, sometimes at the Cheshire Horse (Geyser Rd in Saratoga) but it is pricey at almost $40 for 50#s, which is why I have been looking for alternate sources.

Interested to know what others have found in this general area of NY?

I buy my feed from Snow's (It's on Rt. 66 maybe 10 minutes or so away from APHS). It's not organic but it's $13 for a 50lb bag of Southern States feed. I'm not sure if they even carry organic....

I tried! I changed them over from regular feed to organic very slowly. They turned their beaks up at it! Wanted nothing to do with good (expensive!) organic feed - ungrateful little buggers!

How dare they. Lol

have you checked here http://www.poulingrain.com/dealer_locator.php?pgsid=aclg1soj2l40olo8l3omib8tq2 to see if there are any dealers by you?

Is there a Country Max out there? They special order Blue Seal layers organic for us.
