NY chicken lover!!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL !

I've got the pies in the oven ... coffee until I take them out and put the turkey in .... looking out on a perfect snowy day - it couldn't be more beautiful where I am .... 7 inches of fluffy white ....

I hope you all have a peaceful and fun day !!!

Happy Turkey Day!
I agree the snow is pretty, but was awful to shovel last night. Chiro appointment is forseen in the near future. Stuff was sticky and wouldn't slide off the shovel when thrown. Had to shovel the driveway last night, since hubby never did get the snowblower repaired. Electric starter doesn't work and pull cord snapped. He helped shovel once home. Little girl loved it though. Her carharts were thoroughly covered from snow angels, face plants and just having a great time.
Baked my pies yesterday, not hosting in my house this year so get to relax this morning till Hubby gets home from managing the Turkey Trot.

happy thanksgiven everyone ..

Happy Thanksgiving, all!! Beautiful here just south of Albany, but HEAVY snow! Wet and sticky!

I think my TSC has two brands of organic, but they are literally 2X the price. I would be willing to pay $20 for a 50lb bag, but not $30! I have 36 chickens and that adds up at 1.5 bags per week!
I was actually looking for a locally sourced, natural feed, but not necessarily organic. We farm using organic, all-natural practices, but aren't "certified organic."
I would be fine with something locall milled but not designated "organic."
My chickens like Dumor fine, they're healthy, their eggs are great, they free-range in pasture, but I realize I can't advertise as organic or GMO-free.
That may be ok for my clientele and I can't push the price to $5. $4 is kind of stretching it as it is. I can't double the cost of feed and expect any return on these layers this spring.

Turkey Trot ?
I am hoping everyone is enjoying their day with their families.. Drive Safely
Yes I found the snow also very heavy / wet this morning ...wont do the driveway if I can drive through it ,,
I Always shovel paths for the chickens ..I got to have my Priorities ..LOL

Turkey trot is an annual run they have in buffalo,ny. Thankfully the weather was nice today amd our 7 ft of snow melted for the most part :)

My hubby organizes the race in Cortland. 5k, or 3.1 miles was closer to 4.1 miles for some people this year. One of the volunteers that was flagging directed runners incorrectly. And the road markings drawn out this morning either melted or were plowed over. At least the weather straightened out. Had 600+ runners, down from last year's 780. Hubby is happy this last race of the year is over.

There is a Turkey Trot near here in Vermont and if I remember correctly in Virginia too --- so I think it is a national type of thing - but I don't know much about it .... and would be too full to do anything about it anyway. ha ha

Most Turkey Trots are held first thing in the Morning, before everyone indulges in Thanksgiving Feasts. Not all turkey trots are related or through the same organizations, but it is a popular race. The one in Cortland starts at 9am, so the last runner comes through about 10:30. Not everyone stays for the prizes. Top finishers in each category got frozen turkeys, 2nd place was a pie, 3rd place a pumpkin roll. Final tally was 690 total runners, the biggest race of the year for the Cortland YMCA.

I'm getting a Pressure Canner for Xmas! :D Hubby had to check with me last night which one I wanted, it was supposed to be a surprise gift otherwise. He was looking at the Granite Ware, but instead have him getting the Presto. Would like an American, but a little too pricey for us to start with. He is heading out this morning to Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon I had. Also have an incubator egg turner on my wish list. ;) I'll skip the New Years Hatch-A-Long hoping for that turner, but after that..... *insert evil laugh here*
