NY chicken lover!!!!

Where would you buy feed (other than TSC) near Albany, NY? It's $16 for a 50lb bag of Dumor, but I would be willing to up my budget a little to go all-natural or organic. At TSC, the organic is literally double the price of Dumor, which is cost-prohibitive for me at this point.

Arnold's feed in amesterdam, pellets, cracked corn, pig feed, limited options
Lutz's feed in Oneonta (we usually buy our feed there.... a ton at a time) we paid around $7/50lbs in the summer. Not sure what the feed prices are now...they vary week to week

Not sure if either carries organic

Would be heaven for me. Country Max carry's Agway. I prefer the "Egg Producer Pellets" 18 % protein for the winter. Now if I could get it delivered that would be even better. I don't have a truck and to unload a ton would be a bit much.

I've been catching mice left and right. I wish I could catch those blasted squirrels. They're so destructive. Some are just to smart for the rat traps.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. At least those who celebrate it. (in case there are those who don't)

DW and I are both sick with colds. I can't take anymore. I just got over Bronchitis. The grandkids bring it.

Hey, your getting around my neck of the woods, I shop in Oneonta all the time, bout twenty minutes away, but many places to go. The 'City of the hills', don't like their new slogan 'Life Enjoyed' ??Sounds so past tense.
I usually buy my layer pellet at McDowell Walker in Sidney, their mill is in Afton. Hopefully they are not losing to much business to the new Tractor Supply in Sidney, MW does a lot for the farmers in our area and they have a nice store with very friendly workers, always load your feed for you. We already lost Blue Seal in Bainbridge across from Frog Pond Farms huge fruit and vegetable stand/greenhouse, ever been there? The owner is awesome! Heard he has cancer though so the son is trying to take over, sounds like his Dad, but not the same. His Dad uses no cash register, just a cash box. Get everything you want, produce, plants, flowers, potting soil, chicks, ducklings, turkeys, and he sounds like a auctioneer, saying the price for each and your total $. wahmo quick. And his young workers carry your stuff to your car, even if you say I can get it. Very cool place, always super busy, and cheap! Produce by the bushel if you want it. Where in Oneonta is Lutz feed? I think I'm paying $12/50lbs at MW. I used to pay $10 at Blue Seals mill, $7 would be way cheaper than corn! Is that price the bulk price? Or by the bag? I would buy bulk if it is for that $.
to get a ton = 40 at $7 = $280, right?

I get the same feed from our local co-op. (It is a min of 21% protien) They will deliver if I needed them too. I forgot how much. I think they said it was $5, but I also only live like 5 miles away. I know that they deliver all the way to Skaneateles, so maybe they come up your way. Not sure it would be cost effective, but you never know...

Hope that you and DW feel better soon!!!

Sick again?! Have you ever had vitamin D level tested? I supplement vitamin d3 and vitamin c in the fall and winter due to the low levels of Sun. I hope you and your wife feel better soon.

Kids are disease carrying vermin, we have five, four in school. When one stays home sick, as soon as they go back they end up sick again. They usually take turns, it seems to be a never ending cycle when school is open.

We have just one. Within a week of school beginning, she ends up with the sniffles. Sniffles won't end until school ends.

Thanksgiving was great, all the cooking turned out well, and it was very pleasant. No one got stuck in the driveway! Fire in the fireplace...the next day was Gobble Cross, and that went well too. Lots of people riding bikes through the woods in the snow...made a lot of coffee, and two quiches from eggs my friends birds laid. I am chicken sitting for those birds, and it is lovely to see some eggs for a change! Goats too, they are so cute!

Baldwinsville has a Turkey Trot, too. I think there is no copyright on the name so lots of organizations use it but are not linked in any way. It is nice to do some activity in addition to all the feasting.

I finally put those rope lights up, more than a week ago, so maybe someday we will have eggs again. I think it has been five days of no eggs...on Flockraiser, 20 percent protein, fermented...can you hear my teeth grinding? But younger birds would probably make a difference. I hope the coop isn't turning into a retirement home.

Yes I can ...hear it .
that is why it is good to introduce 1 or 2 new young chickens each year ..How old are your chickens ?
I have 16 layers ..I get about 7 to 10 eggs a day ..mostly from the youngens (less than a year) ...about 1 every 2 -3 days from the olders.(More than 2 years)
They layed about 1 a day when they were younger ..are they getting enough calcium ? you could add some oyster shell & see if that helps ?
