NY chicken lover!!!!

Just wanted to also mention that I finally made up my mind to get some hatching eggs if I could get a mixed lot I found. They will be here next week.......I also bought some fencing to mess around with and see if I can't rig an additional run for my girls. My husband comes off mids Wed AM and is off until Sat morning, so he can help me (wait till he hears, he'll be thrilled. lol).

LOL, I'm sure he will be DELIGHTED!

Just make him some really great egg recipes to remind him of how yummy fresh eggs can be. Good luck with your hatch. Hope things go smoothly for you.

Yesterday I couldn't figure out why the heated waterer wasn't heating - stoopid forgot to plug it in!

Done that! So I am STOOPID, too! hehehe..... Also have had my big gals kick the plug wire right out of the socket.....I do try to tuck it along the edge of the coop, but.....!!

Also forget to plug my horse's heated water bucket back in some times. DUH.

Is it spring yet?????????????

I wish it was spring! I have sworn off hatching any more eggs until they will hatch midway through March at the earliest. It's gonna be bad enough to have the cemani chicks, the ten project chicks, and potentially 14 quail chicks inside till it warms up. I don't need to add more. The temptation is always there though. Must resist!

I am needing to hatch more Marans. They're the largest egg layers I have. A few Dels lay big eggs too. EE not as much as I'd like.

I am at a quandary though. We expect to go south in Apr./May. Having chicks to young and DD might not be able to handle them. I'd like a bigger flock, but what to do. Any sickness could wipe out 6 hens easy enough and not leave enough of a gene pool.

As it is I've got to hatch CR's and they're not even laying yet. It looks like broody hens will be doing that by the time things get going.

The EE's with the CR roo might have bigger birds but they're late bloomers. The CR's are the biggest birds I've had. One roo I swear has a bigger than 12" breast and tall.

I hate to fire up the incu and have trouble.

Not close enough
Finally made it up to the barn today. Hubby normally does all the barn chores while I'm doing the house chores. Found he hadn't been searching the hay pile for secret stashes. Found a pile of 23 eggs, all frozen and split of course. But at least I know the slackers are laying! And he didn't dump the stock tanks, hoping the ice doesn't bust those. Can't wait till I have electric hooked up in the barn and can plug in tank heaters!
