NY chicken lover!!!!

Yesterday was a Interesting day..
The Boys - My Hubby & Son decided to clean of the roofs while I was gone..
They got the overhang off..

All was fine until I put the chickens to bed ..Started counting ...heads ...6 chickens were missing !
Went to the other side of the deck ...the chicken path was buried in the snow ..it was almost dark ..
Got a shovel started digging the path out ....shined a flashlight under the deck ..6 chickens were roosting there .
Wouldnt Come Out ! So I ended up crawling under there ...grabbing a chicken under each arm & scoooching out with them .
then threatening them with the broom so they wouldnt come back in and go down the path to the coop.
After 3 times I was all dirt ..boots, socks, pants , coat ...even inside my nose ..

So today I cleaned off the roof some more with the roof rake ..
Before it got dark I checked under the deck ...4 chickens under there ..roosting
teased them with scratch ...2 came out & went to the coop ..2 didnt want to ..
So I got out the roof rake & chased them with it ..under the deck....they eventally came out too & went to the coop .
after last night ...I wasnt going to do that again ..I had to wash everything I had on yesterday it was so dirty !
I Dust Bathed Under the deck Like a Chicken ! LOL
Don't you just love it. I had to clean off the porch yesterday cuz doofus cleaned off the roof and dumped the snow on it and left it for me. Not an easy thing. I'm still hurting.

Take care,

I have a coop with a fixed enclosed run that will be used for my quail

Farm Innovator is a cheaper one pretty much the same as a Little giant they are both sold at Tractor Supply and do not hold steady temps in my opinion. Actually if you want to sell me some of your eggs when I get the chicks I will hatch them in My brinsea and will let you know what the hatching rate is my Brinseas hatch real well .

I would if I had them. I've two dozen I'm supposed to take north when I go to get my DE and the person who said things were bad is asking for more.

I'm not selling Delaware or CRocks. Though I'm tempted to you. I've another C. Rock hen laying and I've only one of her eggs in the incu. I added it late but we shall see.

I got 14 eggs today and most of them Delaware. 2 maran, 2 C. Rock, 1 EE, and 9 Dels. Hang on. That would mean every Del hen laid today. I don't recall there being any other eggs in the basket this afternoon.

Anyone interested in a Narragansett Tom? He's been fighting w another tom who is in w him (d/t spring perhaps) & so now it's time for him to go. If you want a girlfriend for him we have a Narragansett hen that can go w him. They're nice looking birds. They were hatched late summer 2013. Asking $20 on the tom or $50 for the pair but will consider any reasonable offer if it includes a good home. Birds are in the Ithaca area. Pm me if ur interested.

Also, someone in cortland has an ad on CL for a blind peacock they are trying to rehome. He's gorgeous, if anyone has always wanted a peacock & has room...

Hi all-

I have a silkie mix rooster (Plymouth Barred Rock maybe) that is 3-4 months old and needs a home. My Bantam rooster won't leave him alone. He has had a crooked neck since hatch but it hasn't affected his health at all. He is an interesting little guy. Free in Syracuse (Onondaga Hill) if anyone wants him.

He is a Cutie !
How Do your chickens like Nuttys Feed ?
I love the smell it smells NUTTY to me ..Mine didnt even bawk at the new change ..
mine are laying 12- 14 eggs a day ..
I am collecting them to take to Nutty on Sat ...with some chicks from rancher too ..
Anyone have donations ?

I created a Facebook group for people in the North East. If you are on Facebook and want to join its: Northeast poultry & waterfowl group. Its purpose is the have a place where we can find breeders that are possibly closer for buying & selling, or just friendly talk. So many times we see ads for things & they are across the US. Finding others closer should help with our searches and possible find some more friends along the way.

There's no room in the coop for a crate, and I don't put water in there, except for a few times when I kept them inside all day.
Right now I have 9 ducks, and when I moved them here it took two of those large crates.
The ducks prefer being outside, anyways, so they just turn the snow into ice near the water bowl.

When I had the covered yard at the other place, I'd put the young ducklings in a plastic crate at night, but only for a few weeks.
I'd add hay to that crate almost every other day & have to clean it out frequently, as it did get very thick and wet in there.
I have yet to figure out what I'm going to do with them this year when they start laying eggs, but I have awhile, as they usually wait until it warms up.

Yes, it was a warm day, but I mostly spent it inside working on my website, tweaking some things, adding photos, etc.
Snowed and ice rained last night, so I have to go shovel the paths for the chickens now.
