I called around and the agway had orps and of course the kids NEEDED a couple barred too (lol) the orps are Espescially perky, the rocks are a little sleepy but we got the most awake ones they had, but even they're still in better shape than the ones I had gotten previously... & I have to say they're only a few minutes farther than anywhere else I just hate how its set up on that crazy road so I try not to go over there usually but long story short thanks so much for the heads up on that! I was feeling so bad for those two lonely chickies in the brooder but they're going to be happier I think, and the Orpingtons are running all over, I think they love the brooder and hatchery Orpingtons are nice and big so they'll do alright in our garden runs this summer, they will probably be pretty decent size by thenCheck with Ithaca TSC too, but looks like the Agway has a good selection.
Hi guys. I'm Peggy and I live about 20 miles south of Ithaca, NY. Right now I'm down sizing my girls for the winter, but usually have about 25 to 35 chickens. Fell in love with Blue Cochins, they seem to handle our weather very well. I have a variety of different chickens, BR, Cochins, Royalle Faverole,EE, NHR, white Giant, Wyandotte, Shaver Red, Buff Orp., Austrolorp,Speckled sussex, that's it for now but am always adding more!!!!!/img/smilies/roll.png
Gotta love that NY mud!!!! There was so much snow this year my run in shed for the birds flooded with meltwater, flooding the goose nest. Now she has a waterproof nesting box in there, and I have 4 huge extra eggs in my waterfowl incubator. Once the rest of my eggs come in, I'm going to be full to overflowing! Perhaps I will build a third incubator... Then I can have 2 with chickens and one specifically with ducks and geese, and will have some extra space for a few more.... (yep, totally rationalizing)Afternoon fellow enablers! Its sunny, windy and 53 here. Sounds like rain on the roof with all the meltage going on. Pathways are slowly melting off but still ice up at night. Driveway is about half melted. Of course all this melting mean MUD!!! Lots of it everywhere, especially in the terrorists run. Hauling out a bag of leaves to throw in there in a bit. Of course nobody wipes their feet either before going in to lay so lots of egg cleaning as well. Cabbage is really cheap right now so I got some for the cheeps. Turned Einsteins coop loose to roam and stretch. Gotta post the two blue partridge silkie boys on craigslist. Hopefully someone will take them. They look really good and have very nice feet on them. Unfortunately I am only breeding for light blues so they have to go. I really want to get the coops cleaned out but there is still too much snow to wade through. I did manage to get the plastic off one side of Einsteins run and off the door of Legolas coop. Too much snow to get to the other side of both coops. I hope the weather holds and it melts through the rest of the week and weekend.
Both incubators are now fully loaded and running. Abby, my cat, knows this and has to go in with me twice a day to turn eggs and look in the genesis. She is pretty accurate when they are close to hatching. She sleeps in the room and comes and gets me when she hears them making noise in the eggs. She likes chicks, not to eat but in general. However, she does not like the chickens! Got pecked once on the nose by one and that was it.
Going to try my hand at making doilies. I might go blind trying to see such small stitches but it looks like fun. My grandmothers on both sides used to make them and they were really beautiful. They made all kinds of stuff crocheting. Im still working on my nephews afghan. Its a big one. Didnt realize it at the time. I see so many things I want to make but all this work nonsense interferes with my time to do it!!!
Gotta go release the beasts and put down some leaves. I hope you all are getting some meltage as well. Toodles!
I'm pretty sure you were not planning to put in a skylight either!![]()
DW would do this if I did such a thing.Gotta love that NY mud!!!! There was so much snow this year my run in shed for the birds flooded with meltwater, flooding the goose nest. Don't know how far you all are from Clifton Springs, have any of you heard of The Poultry Hatchery? I'm pretty sure they were known as A&J farms last year, at least the address is the same. As A&J they were on BYC and said they will never ship, now they ship as The Poultry Hatchery. Their website isn't set up yet but you can look at a breeds and price list. I think they have more breeds available than the large hatcheries. They have two separate price lists, one for you pick up, and one for shipping.
