NY chicken lover!!!!

Speaking of chicken math....

I have 17 chicks in a brooder, 58 eggs in my hovabator, I put 8 duck eggs in the LG last night, and once the duck eggs have gotten a head start I'm going to add in some chicken eggs. Why waste the space?

[/IMG]I loved the Hardy Boys! My cousin had the whole set and when we visited there I tried to read as many as I could. Mostly people discouraged me from reading them and encouraged me to read Nancy Drew or Cherry Ames. so much more appropriate for a girl like me. Grrrr.i was a tomboy, never did get to be a girly girl!

But, Wed. Was an awful day, it started with the sound of rushing water which turned out to be our water system flushing itself out, but the water unable to drain into the septic tank which was full...so it was flooding the basement...all this at 4 a.m. In order to make sense of this I made coffee, but the coffee maker just drained cold water through the grounds...it had died too. Luckily I have a low tech percolator for camping!

I have a picture of some of the flock helping, I will try to add that from my phone.

When are we going to do my roo ? DH tried to make a sling for him so he could be up a little - he flopped face first in the shavings .... poor boy.

So I have 2 different batches ... I think Bakin may do the miracle eggs if we can get that done this weekend so I can return those two hens to the main flock ...

then I have some buckeye I have to schedule ....

So let's get together this weekend and talk incubation !!!!!

Holy Moly - that's right - she HAS to keep that bater all cranked up !

Millies are still not laying - but that is not unusual - they held off until the weather eased up and then laid every day through to fall ... so I'm not worried yet - feeding them nice layer plus a few treats ....

Quote: Ducks don't dig anything, they just trample. Guineas are better for the bug eating, and don't dig or trample, or eat the plants. Just eat off the bugs. There is a book called "gardening with guineas".
I too have Fibro and am gluten sensative. Fibro symptoms are much less now that I don't eat anything with gluten, actually I avoid all carbs, except from vegetables. , have known since 1996. Now, I'm thinking that I might have lyme disease as well because the symptoms are almost exactly the same. Suggestion: make your gardens raised beds. You will appreciate that you don't have to till anything, and you can sit while you pull weeds, etc. They have been a life saver for me.

For those of you with the unpleasant symptoms you never had under age 40, I have recently heard about this from a local friend. Hers was very debilitating, but they were able to pursue the cause, and she has been seeing a super specialist, possibly at Johns Hopkins? Who has been looking into primarily women who are developing these issues over 40. She had to eliminate everything, I don't know what she was eating, probably just rice or something, then slowly adding things back into her diet. But it was also all home products, cosmetics, detergents, and since this was at a party at Christmastime, I can't remember it too well and don't want to invent. She had to order all products from a source online, that was the only place she could feel safe with. But the summary is that all these modern conveniences come at a huge cost to some people, severe incredibly broad bands of allergies.

Amazing how much information is out there about the various birds used for gardening. I like Guinea Fowl anyway so that's great.

I was tested for Lyme disease last week and the test came back negative... even tough I have/had numerous symptoms. There is no bacterial sign of it in my system. Personally I believe some of the symptoms are the damage caused by the ingestion of pesticides. Especially those related to neurological issues, because a vast majority of pesticides are designed to kill the insect via neurological failure. Of course we ingested small amount over long periods of time... instead of death it causes pain and hyperactivity in the neurons and the nerves constantly fire .JMO and some articles I have read,

I found an informative article about Guinea Hens and gardening at www.motherearthnews.com :)

Thank you for your support and advice.

Lol, okay, you all caught me, I will have to hatch still. I forgot briefly that I already had orders for Chickenstock, so of course I have to do those too, and M, you know I always have room for your eggs (even if it means my incubator ends up double stacked, lol) so I guess what I meant to say is I'm going to try to be good and try to avoid hatching a bunch of things for myself, lol.

M, I'm free Friday and Saturday, whichever works best for you.

:) ha ha ha WE all got you ! You have no time to rest. :)

Both days work for me - so will wait to see what Bakin has to say ....
