Hermes the cat says to fire up another incubator - he likes to think that he is the one raising the chicks, but is still dependent on human aid to hatch the eggs for him. After that he's a great mother hen... The poor guy is going to have to wait a month for more chicks to mother here - I'm just reloading the incubators!

Ive got 2 incubators going right now, last dozen going in tomorrow afternoon :) I'm kind of a newbie to the hatching thing so I'm just crossing my fingers... A lot. Also I read everything I could get my hands on. We don't have a roo so I got a (ok 4) box(s) of eggs shipped in / lav & mottled ameraucana, bbs & cuckoo English Orpingtons, russian orloff, brabanter & a bunch of mystery eggs from whatever pen had some in it at this guys farm where he raises rare and heritage breeds and he's got some EEs & oes so might have some interesting ones if we get any hatchlings :-D hoping even a quarter of them hatch~ if they all hatch I might have some very handsome Roos for sale soon lol. I can't have more than 7? Roos and I have a feeling about some of my current birds lol.

I think it's time to get the second one out! I've got a trade for some turkey eggs in the works....Lady Hawke, adorable peeps!!!

Busy Bear- Sounds like a great assortment! I wish you the best of luck! Personally, my success rate on ship eggs hasn't been the greatest, but it's still fun to try! How far along are the eggs? Have you candled yet?

Thanks! I figured if I get even just a few birds out of 63 eggs that made it to the house I'm winning at things :) by the end of the year we hope to have our own roosters :-D then things should be a bit less iffy. I examined all the eggs before they went in and they at least are in hatching shape but I can't speak for unseen damage, temperatures or infertility. One incubator is ... Maybe a week along? I have a calender next to it lol. The other I started putting in eggs yesterday and the rest are going in in a few hours. Oh an there are chocolate Orpingtons in there, I really want them to hatch, and I cannot see into them because the eggs are fairly dark :-/ I haven't candled. I'm doing one incubator on an automatic turner and one manual... Which means I have to open and move the eggs like 3x a day... So I'm mildly worried about those ones... But the other incubator I'm going to have to move everything for lockdown and I'm not sure what's better.. So its an expirament. A lot of the eggs are difficult to see into accept for the very light ones... I have a decent candler but its still kinda a mystery. The trouble I think is that when they hatch ... If they hatch... I'm going to have to sort them out and mark them in some way if there are enough to cause confusion. I really don't want to be all like wait which one is from where :hmm I don't want to band because they grow so fast it scares me and I don't want to toe punch... I would paint a toe nail or something ... With like super non toxic baby nail polish or something? Is that a bad idea lol
But yea honestly I would be happy with 7 keepers from the eggs :) that would leave me with the right amount if birds I think... That said I told my husband they probably won't hatch so we will see... I'll know more after I candle them

This is my adult chicken water set up. In the coop I have it sitting on 2 stacked truck rotors. There are 5 horizontal chicken nipples around the perimeter. I have a "Gamma Seal" lid on top and I have drilled a hole in the top and rigged some custom made pcv pieces to allow a bird bath heater to enter the center of the lid for winter use. `
