Roosters went to freezer camp today.

I have a hen with sour crop. Been working on her for a couple days. She acts like nothing is wrong except a big crop that isn't going away.

Out of the 18 chicks that hatched 3 wks ago one has a bad tendon and can only hop along on one leg and another has really bad cross beak. I can't bring myself to kill them.

We've been really busy trying to get a raised bed garden built this spring. DH finished and set it last night. Now I have to find dirt to fill it. Anyone know any local to Centeal Square or surrounding?

My daughters rabbit had 10 bunnies. One died but the rest are healthy and growing quickly.

I have 2 BLRW hens with cross beaks. You will have to keep an eye on the length of their beaks, and cut them back, just like toenails. Know that they can't eat bugs, grass, scratch off the ground or anything off the ground for that matter. You always have to keep the feeder full so they can eat and not starve to death. They have to learn to shovel with that beak to eat and if the foods not deep enough they won't be able to get any in their beak. They don't thrive and are smaller than the rest of my birds the same age.

If I had to do it over I would cull them. It's a sad existence for a chicken.

We culled a scissor beak at 6 weeks once. She weighed half what her mates did and it was just getting worse, her whole face was uneven. She ran to your feet all the time starving. It was hard but for the best.

I agree. My 2 have uneven faces too. One has a nostril that is closed because of it.

Well, one of my BO hens finally committed to being broody tonight. She had been acting like she was thinking about it so I'm not surprised. She's friendly so anything I give her should be pretty good with humans. I just moved her nest box into a dog crate in the coop so if that doesn't break her and she accepts the new location, she'll be getting the guinea eggs that have been in my incubator for a week, and possibly a couple eggs from my hen Lemon that may or may not be fertile.

Also wrestling with when to hand over my incubator goose eggs to Lacie. The ravens stole her eggs all except one which isn't fertile - either they got them when she was off the nest or they quit and she kicked them out and they disposed of them for her. So she gets to have at least one of the eggs in my incubator. They lock down tomorrow and I'm not sure if I want to give them to her then, or wait till they've pipped or what. Just not sure what will be best. It'll be her first time as a mother too so the whole thing makes me nervous.

Pyxis - or anyone near the Vermont border in central area ...

There is someone with an organic flock who wants to give away a Buff Orph roo - says he is nice. I refused as I am going to have my share of roos coming up from all the straight run chicks just hatching out ... :) I am already planning on a cool Buckeye roo taking over the flock from Mr. Shorty-Mc-Strutty who is head and only roo now .....
