NY chicken lover!!!!

My kids have all already been bit multiple times this season. They are all boys and climb trees and roll in the grass. My 5 year old has had Lyme twice now. I am tempted to get guineas.
The mother Earth I'm reading has a nice article on Guineas. You'll want to do your research as they are not as easy to keep as chickens and ducks. I've considered them too. My neighbor has some I think. His first year they got loose and he lost one.

If DW is working too hard & you are bored ...maybe you could help out more ?
Maybe you can find some chickens to visit in Texas ?

Congrats ....I hear it is good to stay away from kitty litter too

Well Now I might do more but I'm not handy with newborns and laundry. She's been staying up or getting up to help with the baby. SIL does the house work mostly. DD is not well from the birth. It was not an easy one.

She's been to the hospital once since. Pray for her and the baby. The baby's Bilirubin number is up but not dangerously high according to what I"m told. Still not good though.

I'm learning my way around so I may get to the HD or Lowes to get supplies to do some repairs and stay busy.

Greetings!

I live in orange county of the Hudson Valley area. :)
I'm looking to buy two companion chickens for my sizable garden yard. Would anyone be kind to let me know of places in the Hudson valley area in Orange that sells live chickens? I'll also be taking a trip to Manhattan this month (or next), and if anyone knows of chicken sellers/places there too I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd check your local Craigslist. If it's not to far for you someone in Delhi sells Bielefelders and Swedish Flowers, and some they call Catskill Homesteaders sorta Easter Eggers.
Paradise in Disguise Hobby Farm is her website, she posts here sometimes.

I had 3 once. They were fine, never attacked us laid eggs and even went in the coop at night. They travel farther then the chickens and are loud. I hear they like to chase cars and that would not be good where I am now. I really want them to be wild and roost in the trees and forage on their own.

Found a snake in the baby coop ...will look for it later to see if it comes back just a small thing ..a puff faced water snake

I have been letting TiTi & chicks in out grilling area ..When we have babies it is safe for them to free range there .

I would recommend chicks ...not hens ..if you get them from babies they accept you as their flock ..
and will be tamer ...than adult hens you buy

@Gramma Chick Looks like a Eastern Milksnake. Should be harmless at that size. Even the big ones 5-6 foot are only supposed to eat rats and mice. I wouldn't be surprised if a big one would eat a chick though. We had a five footer that lived around my father inlaws barn and it never bothered our chickens. It was very calm and non-aggressive. Was funny though if you surprised it it would shake it's tail like a rattlesnake.

it looked to me like a puff faced water snake...we have the seneca river behind us ..
well it surprised me anyway ...I didnt scream...snakes usually dont move fast enough to startle me ...
I have only seen one snake total in a couple of years
Before chickens... snakes were in the garden everywhere ..mostly garter snakes...no bugs to eat ..no doubt
