NY chicken lover!!!!

All my peeps for this year !

Mix:

And Buckeyes -

Congrats! I've wanted to try Buckeyes, and ended up with getting a young rooster that's part Buckeye.
It actually ended up being "better", as it was a short-cut to what I wanted, but will provide totally unrelated new bloodline for the Catskill Homesteaders.
Just put some hens in with him a few days ago, so it'll be interesting what he produces.

Speaking of mixes...do you guys think you might be able to tell "Who's the hen" from looking at some chicks, if the cock is definitely a BCM?

I put my BCM boy over a variety of hens...Black australorp, BCM, speckled sussex, buff orpington, barred rock, and easter eggers. Some of the chicks are quite interesting. None of them are from the EEs, for sure because most of the EE eggs didn't hatch and the one that did, I had to cull the chick (slipped tendon).

I can tell the barred rock's chick...because the chick is barred. Its difficult to tell between the full BCM chicks and the australorp/BCM chicks...they're all black and the presence of feathered shanks doesn't preclude the australorp mix because of the cock.

But there are some brownish chicks...if I didn't know better I'd think they were BCM/EE. They have heavily feathered shanks. I should see if I can grab a picture or two later.

On the other side of the coop, I had those three silkie roosters (two silver partridge and a blue) over a silver sebright hen, and their chicks are really neat.

Share some pics ! What is your roo mixed with ?
These are the photos from the gal who I got the new rooster from, about a month ago:

His father was a Buckeye/ Buff Orp; his mother was one of her hens - she wasn't sure which one, but I'm guessing one of her EE's,
as she had several raise chicks.

I'll have to download the photos to put up the one of him with his new hens.

Hello I am from the buffalo area. I am brand new to having a duck. A mother Mallard brought her babies into my pool and could not get them out put up a ramp and they all got safely back to mom except one. Wild life rescue in my area said to take this sweet baby to the SPCA. I would love for him to be able to go back into the wild but I donnot think that is going to happen. He's only been here 3 days and we love him to pieces but I think I farm our someone wanting a pet duck would be the best. I have dogs I don't think would do well with him and a baby due in 8 weeks that will take up my attention. I believe it's about 1-2 weeks old. If any one has any recommendations please let me know. I am brand new to this so I am sorry if I posted in the wrong place. Thanks

I would take him, if I was closer! My mom is a lis. wildlife Rehaber but my neighbor has 2 duck nests right now. One just hatched and the other any day. I'd love to sneak him in with the babies. But I'm in dutchess county, near poughkeepsie. No way to get him down here, right?

It is a bit too far for us. Thanks for the thoughts though
