More broody questions...
I've never done this before...lol.

I know somebody here once said that they put food and water in with their broodies. I brought her a small cup of water and she eagerly drank from it. She also eagerly ate the food I put up there. Course...putting food in there meant other hens decided THEY wanted to be in there, too.
I dont leave the food in there with them . The First thing I do when I go out is I open up the hen house ...take all the broodys out ...for RR
There is fresh food & water out there for them ..They run around & scream or dust bathe , etc for a bit ...when they are ready to go back in I let the rest of the flock out ..
When the flock gets treats before bed I give the broodys a treat with food & water ...I remove the little plastic dish ( tupperware snack bowl I think )
after a little while so it doesnt draw other hens ...

Aaaaanndd I just managed to crack a cemani egg that's due to hatch in a few days :/ Didn't crack into the membrane, thank goodness, but I did manage to crack the shell almost all the way around in a hairline crack, sigh. I've patched it with a piece of tape around everywhere except the air cell, since of course the crack is right above where the chick will probably pip, so I don't dare to tape there and have it try to pip and fail and suffocate. Fingers crossed for the little thing that it makes it to hatch. Only a few days left...

You have a ton of eggs on the go .... you don't happen to have a stray Buckeye hatching out? I am sure the last two came out early - so I think they may as a whole been 1 or 2 days behind the 21 day count .... so hoping some are mixed up with other hatches ! Was told these birds have a pretty high hatch rate .... so just hopeful.

I'm sure if the Cemani is so close to hatch you can nurse it through ...

So I am looking to see who it was that I am bringing the 2 Sebastapol goslings for...I can't seem to find our communications, and of course, I didn't write it down....

Also I'm bringing Marans eggs, and don't remember who it was for...please pm me...!

I have to leave early this year, so I plan on just getting there at 11 and leaving by 12:30.

I will also bring Coronation chicks, eggs, and possible Marans chicks, and Silkie chicks or eggs.

If you reserved something from me, please pm me again to remind me.

Thanks

Sorry, no more buckeyes :( All my remaining eggs are either d'uccles, guineas, or labeled as to what they are. It seemed to be doing okay after the crack, still moving and no bleeding, so fingers crossed.

I just went back and counted the chicks in your buckeye picture and I'm seeing five - didn't I hatch six? I hope you didn't lose one :(

yep one died the first night - it still had egg on its chest - so I think it hatched too early. the other small one also had egg on its chest - but it perked up after the first day.

I knew the one was poor ... I was debating dropping feeding it - but all that get that attention seem to die anyway ....

so 5 of them now with one being a runt ! Will see if she gets a growth spurt and catches up with the others .... :)

Too bad, sorry about that :hugs They all hatched naturally with no intervention, so it's really a shame that that happened :(
