NY chicken lover!!!!

That is why I figured they maybe took an extra day to hatch - like the millies take a day less to come out .....

I'll have to think of a cute name for the runtie one ! You know how I love funky names.

By the way - Colo's babies are:

Attila the Hen (due to energy and pecking)
Pumpkin
Pecan
and the grey one I am still thinking about ......

Oh - a little plug for myself ... I am only doing this here because it is FREE - so not asking you to buy anything.

Kindle is offering my book free today - so you can download it now and read it later ...

It is geared toward young boys - just starting to read chapter books... theme is western, written with good old-fashioned values (but not mentioning religion) and in a more modern style for kids today.

All places are REAL - and I have some real pictures from the historical society of the town it is set in.

if you like it - it would really help me if you left a nice review on amazon.com

Yes - we had an extended gentle shower. It was wonderful - helped to water in the plants I put out yesterday. Today my back is broken in 14 places...

Thanks! I just got it and can't wait for my oldest son to start to read it. Then maybe he will " meet the author at chickenstock"

The rain made my row of peas double in size last night, kale, swiss chard, spinach and beets popped up. Planted more than we can use, chickens will get plenty of greens this winter

Beer Can ... I'm not terribly good at veggies .... you say the rain ... so in a dry spell like we had - how often do you water ???

Dry like it was I try to water twice a day, early in the morning and before dark. I didn't water enough and they didn't seem to be growing. Planted late seems like we went from frozen ground to hot and dry. Peas do best in the cooler spring weather, it usually snows on ours a couple times, snow and heavy frost doesn't hurt peas, but you can't plant them when the ground is rock solid frozen. They are usually done by time hot summer hits. Spinich does best early or late summer into fall also, cooler weather. I've never grown kale before I guess it's the same. Swiss chard will grow all summer, cut it down and it grows back, chard is supper yummy. Funny thing is our chickens love spinach but don't seem to eat chard? They even love dandelion greens. Don't know why they don't like chard.
