I thought I heard AI wasn't a problem come summer time. Only in the spring and fall during migratory season. I think they're jumping the gun, but I guess they figure better safe than sorry.

Hum - well Pyxis - I guess you have to wait until next year for your first show ....
I also understand .... if 100 caring people enter and take care to only bring healthy birds and one greedy nut brings a sick bird ..... it could affect everyone.
Still, it is mostly carried by wild birds and that is not something that can be handled by no birds at a fair ..... I hope that healthy and well-fed chickens will ride this out nicely ....
We work right next to the poultry barn at the fair. I love hearing the roosters while I'm cooking breakfast..It feels like home...I love walking through the building on the way back to the camper to see everything..I get to see something new everyday. I will miss it this year!I understand the prophylactic response...but, what a bummer! I was looking forward to the poultry barns this year!
I think it is good to not have the poultry exhibit. I think it is big business for a handful of people who bring large numbers of birds, but is not what I have always thought a state fair should be. I think it should be regular people, like US should bring our best birds ... And with the problems they have had when there was no outbreak, it is good not to have such a large gathering of stressed birds. Just my opinion.

Most birds never looked that healthy
