NY chicken lover!!!!

Sounds adorable! Keep an eye on it, if the father was either one of the frizzled birds it could be a frazzle and have issues down the road

I could meet tomorrow but I would have to leave to get back to Fair Haven by 3:30 so Friday would be better if possible but if not I can make it work

However I did find a Marans chick in the Marans coop. Moved it to a brooder since there are more egg. There are three hens in the one box.

Six hens are broody. Three in bucket nest boxes. One as far as I know has no eggs.

I need marans so hope more hatch.

I may give B. Delores more eggs to try.

Mom is a smooth sizzle and if the dad was one of the frizzled it should be fine. Only get a frazzle when you breed frizzle to frizzle

Whoops, when Baking said sizzle I just assumed it was actually frizzled. My bad! I love frizzled birds, but I have chicks right now that are frizzled and there's a NN frizzled cockerel I'd like to keep but I'm worried he'd end up breeding with the frizzled pullets, so I'm on the fence about it.

I'm feeling a little nervous. I just made the plans for incubating eggs. I pick up the incubator tomorrow and will get it all set up. I pick up eggs on Friday (from several sources- Welsummers, Partridge Rocks, Brahmas, Ameraucanas, Black Copper Marans, and some barnyards to fill the bator). I will set them all Friday night (up to 40). This is a learning experience for me and for my children. After bothering to go through all this trouble and spending money on hatching eggs, I'm very worried that it will be a poor hatch. Any advice is welcome. My sister in law probably needs a break from my incessant questions. Do you have any way you keep track of the hatch? I'm going to have my oldest son journal about it, and I found some online resources for the learning aspect. I don't expect 100%, but I am worried about a complete failure. ((Don't ask me how I survived becoming a mom 3 times- it probably was equally nerve-wracking))

I think part of my anxiety is coming from the fact that my nearly 11-year-old boxer is not doing well. He probably won't survive the weekend. :-(

This is normal - I obsess about hatching
Basics -Keep incubator in a draft free room, temperature constant , 21- 24 days, turn eggs a couple times a day ,

Sorry your dog is sick ...

The monsters have destroyed my one set of blackcap vines. They completely rooted them up and ate EVERY SINGLE BERRY!!!! Talk about mad. Well at least they had a good lunch , brats. They spent 8 hours running around my yard eating everything they could find and playing in the creek that runs down the one side. Oh how dirty my little white leghorn girls got. My black astrolorp girls chased off every wild bird that even thought about coming on the property, those girls can be vicious! ! .
They are good landscape clearers ..
My chickens used to chase wild birds ..now that we have bird feeders ...not so much .
They will come under the feeders to get the dropped seed
Our dog's dog run cable broke and she got loose last monday. She ended up going through my barn, 6 dead, couple injured, and 3 missing. I set another hatch of eggs from the ones I lost and the other birds I have last night. All the dead were hens, only 1 roo missing (younger silver ameraucana). Hopefully this hatch will be better than the previous ones. We haven't had good luck this year with hatching.
so sorry ...that must be extra hard to swallow when it is your dog

Bakerzdoz ..... for a sweet bird and a little different coloring - I suggest a Speckled Sussex ..... they are big, sweet and have lovely dots over rust/mahogany feathers with some black flecked in too.

Tao chick - so sorry about your Boxer - we know they are a family member.

Girls - sorry - I am going to be picking something up at 7:30 am .... then heading home to unload and that cuts into my work time - so I can't come home and then go out again as I have 2 books I am working on right now ..... One is great - like a new Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe) PLUS I can't count on the weekend to catch up on editing as the HAY is being delivered on Sat morning and we have no helpers this year - so just DJ and I to unload and stack :) Gunna take all day both days to get that done !
