NY chicken lover!!!!

We had three visitors last night while sitting on the porch. Baby skunks! Not sure how my broody hen hatch is going 18 eggs 3 she kicked out the nest, two hatched fully found dead in nest, two dead in shell after zipping, four alive under her, rest are peeping zipped but covered by the membrane hen is still sitting on the nest. Should I be doing something for them?

Its been a tough couple of days..
Yesterday I found another egg bound hen dead ...in the morning ..another one of the TSC white rocks
Today another young hen was acting sick for a couple days .so I picked her up & she had a full water crop .( was not sour )
I tried to help her lose some of the liquid & she died .
I think she was dieing but I think I killed her ..liquid got in her lungs ..
I know now ...You are only supposed to flip them for 2 seconds & then rest & try again for 2 seconds

Sorry to read of ur chx. It's never easy to lose a bird. Sometimes it's tougher when we lose them as we r trying to help them. I'm sure u did everything u could have for her. Hugs.

Give it another day to see if they get out by themselves .
Sometimes when they are still in the membrane they are not quite ready to come out .
Maybe still absorbing the yolk ...or just resting . Longs they have a air hole they should be okay .
I know it is hard to resist helping them ...I want to do that too.
I had one that stayed in like that for 2 days ...on the third day I gently helped them ...

I read somewhere that hens that lay too soon ...dont fully develop their reproductive system ..
tend to get egg bound . These started laying at 4 months ...too soon in my opinion .
I dont mind hearing your opinion ...that is what I am here for ...LOL

Don't think I've never had an egg bound hen. I'm sure I have. You should see my "Fox bait ohh aah aah". She looks like a Runner duck. She's still laying but I have no idea what is wrong.

Buckwheat is still going too. Swollen but I don't have a clue what is wrong.

I've read they "usually" die but here they are.

I as a rule I keep my birds on grower until that first egg, but chickens are tricky. This is why we shouldn't get all down on ourselves when something happens. My advice wasn't a "Well you should do this", I know you do your best.

I've read plenty and let me tell you everyone has a method, trick or system.

Point? I am sorry for your loss, we can only do the best we can.

Me? I usually sulk for a few days, think "I can't take this I'm getting rid of these chickens.
