NY chicken lover!!!!

Managed to have 4 of the eggs hatch. 3 of them were hatching out of the wrong end and I ended helping them out. The 4th took it's jolly old time hatching, but all my duck eggs seem to take their time...Very happy that I got 2 blues. Would have loved it if they were all blue, but I'll take the 2. It has been a very nerve racking few days. Very happy

HA HA Told you they were fearless around the "big" birds. Let them have their way and they will RUN the place.

They do!! My 'not so chicken loving' better half - gives them mealworm treats.........

Morning all. A little cooler today in ga. Leave for home tomorrow. Got a call from my chicken sitter last night. A bear tried to get in the big coop yesterday. Pulled some of the hardware cloth down from the side window. Didn't get in though. Had my neighbor go help her fix it last night. Now it's a problem that must have a permanent solution. Will work on that when I get home.

Congrats on the new hatches!

Yup I would say that it time to get rid of the problem for good! Shows how good that your coops are built. I don't think any of mine would stand a chance against a bear. Glad that is one predator that I don't have to worry to much about.

Sorry ...you lost him ..it sounds like he did his job ..all the ladies are safe ..
Id say maybe a fox got him ...they have come out here in the daylight ...
I would be careful letting them out tomorrow without supervision ..it will probably come back .

I had a surprise when I turned on the back light to check the coop at 3:00 am
( I always check it before I go to sleep )
I can hear the Grandkids telling that story now -)

Morning everyone,

Checked some eggs last evening. One duck egg had a hole and I could see some breathing. Didn't check it this morning yet.

A Delaware hen has gone broody. Not sure if she's number 7 since the band came off number 7. Number 7 was the hen who was broody earlier this season. I've got to find a place to quarantine her or she'll have to many eggs again.

I've another C.Rock hen went broody too.

I wouldn't mind if there were more chicks out of all this down time.

Gramma you can be gramma to whoever or whatever you want. Makes no never mind to me.

Pharm I agree it's time to deal with that bear for good. Though their fur is coarse. Which may be why they're used for rugs and not over coats.
