NY chicken lover!!!!

Well, I think I lucked out - it's been a few weeks since I lost my awesome roo Gomez to a hawk. Turns out one of his babies looks very roo-ish!! =) I only hope he ends up as good as his dad. The NN's kept me guessing, but this one is getting way too colorful to be a girl. (rare that you hear someone happy about getting a roo, right? )

I am happy about the NN Roo boy. I remember when you lost Gomez... your story made me sad. I hope Gomez's son is everything his dad was, especially brave. I tried looking up a name that meant "son of Gomez"... Unfortunately Gomez means the son of Gomo or Gome... I guess the "ez"means son of. but I tried. I wish you much luck with him.

hahah thanks!! I still don't have a name! I gave away all the other roos in the hatch but kept the NN's hoping I'd get a roo to replace gomez. His name came from the addams family - he looked like a little gomez when he was a chick. I'll find that pic again.

Ahh here it is!! He just reminded me of Gomez Addams.. Now I need a name for baby Gomez!

Well, it looks like we lost our roo today. His harem has stayed in the coop for most of the morning. I was out calling him and found a small pile of feathers......
    I didn't really want a roo, got him as a pullet - haha!  He was very good with the girls and respectful of people & extremely handsome - I think I'll miss him.

Sorry about the Roo I remember you were surprised when he wasn't a pullet... we got our chicks from that same lady.
I still have that Silver Marans/Rhodebar Roo if you want him.The one with the feathered feet. Gonna be a handsome boy the burnt Vienna is coming in on his neck, shoulders and saddle.

My pekin duck's nest was raided by something (I suspect the ravens) just a few days before hatch, poor girl. They would have been so cute - I saw one duckling, obviously too young to hatch, and the crushed egg it came out of in the nest. It was white with a black tail. All the rest of the eggs were gone without a trace So I'm ordering her some ducklings. If she's still broody at the end of next week I'll try to give them to her. If she's not, they're going to go to one of my broody hens.

Bakerz, how is the little cemani pullet doing?

I love her to pieces cause she's naughty, always hungry and smart...she knows I always bring treats or leftovers in my tote bag so if I leave it unattended... she gets in it and tries to steal them. Treats are no longer left in plastics bags cause she drags them out and tries to run off with them. lol it's comical this tiny chicken trying to drag off a yummy bag. Now she gets in the tote and pecks incessantly on the plastic containers.
Makes me giggle every time.
My husband loves her too which is saying a lot from a non-chicken kinda guy.

I was actually going to PM you cause I wanted your input about my next breed of chicken. I want to get a heritage breed or something neat..next spring. But I don't know what kind to get I am thinking Ameracauna, but I don't want to get screwed getting EEs. I want to get good stock and breed them...I know you know lots of chicks, lots of breeders & wanted your help choosing. Let me know if you would want to help.

Now, now it was all in good fun. At least for me. I'm quite sure there are many who feel as Bakerz does and that's okay. Hey Bakerz, we okay? Wouldn't want to meet you at a chicken stock and have you snub me. I'll pet your dog if it makes you feel better.

Came home from church, opened the garage door and there she was waiting. Crazy cat. I told my daughter she had to buy some litter. That cat needed somewhere to go. Even I won't toss her outside for the night. Coons might get her.

I posted to CL but don't expect to hear from anyone. Well if she does stay I hope she's a good mouser.

My GD loves her because she lets her pet her. DW will be reeling when she finds out the cat stayed. Cat's and kittens are hard to get the SPCA to take. They're all full up. Makes me mad as heck. Why can't folks just get their animals fixed.

If DD wasn't here the poor thing would have to go. I'm too old for a cat and DW doesn't like animals. Though she will take care of the chickens if I go away.

Sorry ...you lost him ..it sounds like he did his job ..all the ladies are safe ..
Id say maybe a fox got him ...they have come out here in the daylight ...
I would be careful letting them out tomorrow without supervision ..it will probably come back .

I had a surprise when I turned on the back light to check the coop at 3:00 am
( I always check it before I go to sleep )
We had another Coon go next to the coop last night ..it went up to the coop & was eating the chick food
( I have it on the outside wall so the hens dont eat the chick food ...The 2 pens share their inside wall .
Not Welcome ! it got one 22 slug as it was exiting
