You know, I've been considering the same thing. I'd like to go south and it would mean finding someone to care for the birds while I'm away. With my son going to Alaska that is not a trip you make for a three day visit.Everytings fine,I am now wanting to do things, travel, etc. that the chickens limited me in doing. No, you probably haven't seen other SFH like her, because that big of a crest is too large for what the "unofficial standard is". I'm sure it happened before, but it seems to me that in Sweden these double-crested wouldn't have survived the predators as well, so most likely didn't survive long enough to breed themselves. It's the result of breeding crested to crested, and she actually has a vaulted skull like the Polish breed. I didn't realize it would happen in just one generation, I thought it'd take breeding crested to crested over many generations. That's why I'm now using only non-crested SFH roosters. One person I sold hatching eggs to around the same time that Sasha was hatched, ended up with another "double-crested" chick. Live and learn - it's part of life!
Anyways, I think Sasha looks adorable and I'm glad she found a good home.
We eat our duck eggs. I don't think that it tastes much different and I when baking I only use duck eggs and I think that my baking is better. My turkeys haven't started laying yet. I don't have a huge farm. I only have 5 acres and my duck and turkeys stay pretty close to home. And yes some turkeys fly. You can clip on of their wings. I didn't clip mine and they fly up onto our roof almost every day. Kids think that it is funny when they are up there. Me not so much.. I have a hoop coop that my turkeys are in and a recycled/remodeled chicken tractor that I use for my ducks. My husband calls our pullets "little moochers". lol They eat and eat and eat but they're not laying. In due time dear one. In due time. Hahaha This sounds like a crazy question but I'm guess you eat your duck and turkey eggs? Or are you using them to hatch more ducks and turkeys? Do you grow them for eating? Just out of curiosity. I know everyone has their own reasons for raising them but I've seen some people raising ducks in their small backyards and I always thought you had to have a farm for it. Same for turkeys (though honestly they fly over our chainlink fence into our yard).
