NY chicken lover!!!!

That is funny, yet strange why she'd try to bite people. Perhaps the sudden change is she's getting more mature. I've noticed once pullets are closer to laying age, they start to mellow more. I've never had them try to peck me, but I've also not picked them up too often. Yet, at night when they're on the roosts, I can pet them on their backs. But, in the morning, the Swedes just want to get out of the coop!
I had one young rooster last year (not a SFH) that was raised by Confetti the bantam cochin, and she'd bring her "tribe" over when I came out with mealworms. This little chick was so outgoing that I knew was a cockerel due to his "personality". As he got older, he'd come over to me & peck me, probably looking for more mealworms. But by that time I'd stopped raising them due to grain mites, so I didn't have any with me. He never was "aggressive" toward me, but would still peck me hard at times, looking for treats. He turned mean though toward the other roosters, and he's next on the list for freezer camp.

Heavy frost again and around 25* out there. Hopefully, it warms up quickly, so we can work on the projects outside. The critters don't seem to mind, it's just my hands and feet!

Marquisella -

Good luck - to others considering her birds - I bought a pullet from her at a past chicken stock and she is a totally wonderful bird with deep black and perfect coppering ! Her birds are indeed quality - I'd buy a trio if I were closer.

Well I've finally caught up on the thread. There have been some black bear sightings around here lately, but I'm hoping my coop and fencing will hold up enough. I'm not really out on the country so I think the Bears will hopefully stay away. My lavender orp rooster is getting HUGE! Still loves his silkies lol. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well I'm nearly set up for the winter chores. My wagon with milk jugs and the snow blower right in front of the garage door. Checked it out and it started right on one pull of the cord. It is elcecric start but the connection is broke and I don't have money to have ti fixed just yet. Though now that I think about it, it's a three prong plug thing and the big fat third prong is broke. That might not mean I can't use the electric start? any one know?

No, you can still use it. It's just not grounded anymore, but will still work. ("The big fat prong thing" is designed to prevent possible shock, but does not inhibit the operation of the electric starter.)
- from my brother, since he knows about these things

Thanks. I bought an electric start for my snowblower and my lawnmower. I'm old and yanking on a cord is not my idea of a good time.

Ate our own tonight, roasted sussex and potatoes carrots onions cabbage....Big feed savings, culled three sussex cockerels and two white giant pullets, all non breedable, forgot how much work that is, got to get quicker, took three hours...More room in the coops, should have done more, left a giant cockerel and one pullet, and just couldn't decide on the single langshan, think it is a cockerel, not sure, just to darn purty to eat right now....
