NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone remember the two American Buff geese I picked up to keep Lacie company? Well, they never got as big as they should have and they just would not come around to being friendly. All of my birds come running when I'm holding the food scoop and treat bowl, even the most skittish broody raised ones. Not these guys. They seem to have an aversion to humans.

Well, I took this picture and asked around about it.

Turns out I am the owner of two American Buff Canada goose crosses :th

And, they're also most likely sterile. But Lacie likes them, which is the whole reason I bought them, and they're pretty, and it is kind of neat to own a cross like this. They're staying for sure, it just took me by surprise.

Are they loud? I'd imagine geese are loud, as they were really loud at the show I went to and are pretty loud in the wild.
That said, I have a hen that is louder than some geese. The whole neighborhood knows when she lays an egg.

Not really. They will call to one another loudly if they get separated, but no louder than a rooster crowing, and they stop doing that when they get back together. Mostly they talk quietly amongst themselves with little honks and body language. Lacie trumpets to me when she sees me coming into the yard :) Otherwise, quiet. Nowhere near as loud as my guineas, that's for sure.

Bummer that the geese aren't what they were sold to u as. The cross does make for a very pretty bird tho. Glad Lacie is happy. That's the most important thing. Maybe with time they will continue to warm up to you.

The show birds must have been stressed. It was deafening walking through the geese section.
I think I've forgotten the decibel level of my first/last rooster. The cockerels growing out are starting to get louder. They may find the soup pot quicker than expected. They're only 12 weeks now.

Note to self and anyone else like me... wear shoes when sitting in the chicken coop... toes peeking up through pine shavings are fair game!

I don't make friends with my chickens, they are standoffish, but one of my silkies I have to pick up and hold while I'm feeding/watering gathering eggs or it continually goes after my toes, lol.

Want to have your chickens in a movie? Anyone who lives near Westtown, NY? Or not so near.....

I answered an ad for chickens to be used in a movie. It was all planned but now I can't do it and they are left hanging. They even bought a chicken coop to be used so the chickens can't get loose! Food & motel will be provided if coming from out of town. Also $125 as pay for the couple hours they need the chickens.

Around 10 chickens. Shooting is between Nov. 12-15, not sure of exact date yet, but just for a few hours.

If anyone wants to do this, and it sounded like a lot of fun, please pm me and I will give you the name of the person who is the contact.

strangely enough a roosters crow is not as loud as a dogs bark. That incessantly barking dog is much louder. This according to "City Chicks" a book I keep pushing.
