NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone interested in echinacea or platycodron seeds? Was cleaning out my perennial beds & found a bunch of seed pods/seed heads. I'm no expert gardener, just like flowers around my house & these two perennials do well with minimal work. Not sure if they do better sown fall or spring, but seeds available if anyone here is interested.
how much for how many seeds ? Pm my your address and I will send you money order and S.A.S.E. I'm not great with flowers but my 8 year old is, she grows everything. She says it's her "fairy friends" telling us thank you for cleaning up the woods.

I can't seem to grow spinach either. This year it grew about 2" and then went straight to seed, and that was in early May. Very strange... and I'm a horticulturist by trade, so I'm supposed to be good at it!

Spinache is a cold crop . start it in April even though the ground is cold plant the seed. At least that what I think. I was watching a video on Alaska and you should see the size of the cabbages. Nearly 4' across.

I have placed 9 dozen eggs in fridges of friends over the last 2 days and I STILL HAVE 5 DOZEN!!! That's after eating 3 dozen this weekend. Holy cow , I didn't realize eggs add up so quickly. I'm a smart one, I want more chicks. My husband is going to make me move into the coop.

Yes, started the seed in the ground in March. Went to seed in May at only 2" high. Very weird.

Same with peas, get them going REAL early, I've had snow on them and done great! Peas did great, I'm glad I wasn't the only one (not really) that our spinach did the same thing, came up about 2" and bolted! I usually do great with spinach. Planted some this fall also, about 2", hasn't bolted, but isn't growing.. Always done good with swiss chard, didn't grow enough to eat, bout the same as the spinach??? Planted a ton of beets for greens and beets, not great either! (love beet greens with little baby beets thinning them out) did get some edible beets, not many for what we planted. I think it was the weather, weird yr??. Thankfully I tried kale this yr, tons of it!! Did real good on the cabbage also this yr, 36 big heads, enough for boiling, sauerkraut, and the chickens, chickens will have their fill of kale also.

Onions too!

We grew lots of kale this year too and it's still doing great. Must be this year's weather was perfect for it. We chop up & freeze the extra - raw, not blanched. Kale in eggs, quiches, soups - goes well in just about anything and so good! Sometimes we'll just pick a leaf and eat it while working in the garden.
As for spinach, usually no success in spring - same 2" and bolt. But this year planted in March? And we got huge leaves but also tried some varieties known for slow bolting. It was the first time I'd ever eaten fresh spinach that was juicy and "crisp" not limp & wilted store spinach. It literally "crunched" when I bit into the leaf yet melted in my mouth.
Arugula is another green we grew lots of and it reseeded itself so we have a gorgeous crop this fall. Surviving frosts & 20 degree temps.
