NY chicken lover!!!!

Let us know when you have a hearing
Will do. We're trying Town Council first, which will be some time in January.

They've got straw, by the way - primarily under the roosts. Should we scatter it more? Maria really likes laying in the full bale, and they kicked it all out of the actual nest box.

Small city big town near me Oneonta just 'legalized' chickens for the first time. Many small rural towns near me still do not allow chickens, crazy, you can have them in NYC!!! I'm so glad I don't live by those rules, no restrictions here.
My girls also kick out their bedding in the nest boxes, I don't know why, I just keep replacing it. I've tried hay, straw, dry grass, tree leaves, wood chips, sawdust, WHY! They have four nest boxes and the dozen plus all lay in only two of them WHY? And lay the in two with just a ring around the edge cause they kick out the bedding, hard wood that they lay on. Good thing they have hard shells.

Missed you Rancher.  Glad you are better....even if you do not love Silkies.

What do think of Chocolate Bantam Orpingtons?  There are beng sold
on CL.

Thinking perhaps I would try REAL Chickens.  Do you think they would
live well with our Silkies?  Regards, Aria

In the little experience I have...lol..my silkies get along fine with my large fowl, but I have breeds known to be docile like Orpingtons, Cochins and a barnevelder.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!! I'm working the night shift tonight! We will see how many Christmas Eve babies we end up with in labor and delivery at the hospital.

Thank you for all the well wishes.

Rancher-I hope everyone feels better soon. Wishing you well wishes on everything else.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Hey all, so, my flock is amazing... got in a tiff with Lord Sterling... I think he tried to make a small power play... I got in his face, looked him in the eye and said, "watch it mister!" Then I carried him around for about five minutes, parading him in front of everyone. Teenagers!
Anyway, my smallest Delaware, Little Liberty still has no tail... she looks like a quail. She was my baby with horrible paste butt, do you think it damaged her ability to grow tail feathers?

Merry Christmas Eve! Our big day is tomorrow with breakfast present opening and then a big meal in the early afternoon. Quick question though, is it normal for my four roosters to crow periodically all night long? It is dark from sunset to 3 or 3:30, but they crow. With the warm weather we have the windows open, so I noticed. Don't remember that happening before. I thought they were very quiet when it was dark so predators wouldn't find them.

Maybe, I thought so with one of my giant pullets, never grew a tail and I did have one chick with bad pasty butt and accidentally ripped the fluff of her butt being impatient cleaning it. Wasn't sure if it was the same one but it made sense at the time.
After I culled her and saw she was way meatier than a giant should be at that age, and had no tail bone, I looked up what other breeds the hatchery had and they did have one tailless breed, manx rumpies. Looked up pictures and there is white ones that looked just like her, oops I thought she was just a pathetic attempt at a giant that I didn't want for breeding. I would have kept her in the laying coop if I had known...
Discussing the missing tail on another thread someone told me they had a brahma that every time it molted it would take forever to grow the tail back, so maybe your Del will get one eventually.
